“Zero Originality” Blows The Whistle On GameStop Shenanigans
Work sucks. Day in, day out, facing the daily grind as just another wage slave drone trapped under the thumbs of corporate oppressors. But have you ever wanted to really stick it to The Man? We’ve all whispered it under our breath, but one guy finally did more than just talk about what we’ve always dreamed, and took serious action…with the power of YouTube.
Known only as >WhistleBlowerZero, this former GameStop employee couldn’t take any more of his corporate masters and sought to spread word of their shenanigans. In his 9-part video series on YouTube, WhistleBlowerZero (or WBZ, as my lazy typing figures know him) exposes the many ways that GameStop takes advantage of their employees and even their unsuspecting customers. Making WBZ’s brutal shootings more digestible is his tributary use of Zero Punctuation’s simple (read: easily produced), trademark visual style.
WBZ covers GameStop’s unfair trade-in mark-ups, worthless subscriptions, and criminal labor management. GameStop’s business model seems to be motivated by one simple thing: It’s easy money. So far, they have been lucky to prey upon the ignorance of their customers, offering what appears to be a good deal, asking that they pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
While WBZ’s vendetta is quite clear, I hope that other disgruntled employees use their intimate knowledge not to destroy GameStop, but rather to change it. What gives GameStop its strength is that the majority of the consuming masses truly believe that GameStop is their best, if not only option for buying and selling games. GameStop has had it too good for too long. Once more people become web-savvy, GameStop will have to adjust their practices and seriously compete for business. Only then can they genuinely earn the hearts and dollars of their patrons and associates.
