Xbox vs. Gamerscore Cheaters

So for months now, Gamers have been warned against using artificial means to tamper with their Gamerscores and Achievements on Xbox LIVE, and it looks like those threats have finally been made good on. Last week, those account holders that had been identified as the most serious offenders woke up to find that their Gamerscores were reset to zero, without the ability to gain those lost points or Achievements back—as well as to find that their account had been clearly marked cheater for the community to view on xbox.com.

As of now it’s unknown how many players have had action taken against their accounts. Though rumor has it that it’s been as few as ten, there is no official word on this as of yet.

  1. I just hope for the sake of these alleged cheaters that they were not using pay services to up their gamer score. I personally am addicted to achievement points myself, but to pay for them is an entirely different level of sadness. Pure pure sadness. I also heard there was a manipulation of accounts via memory card but I have no idea how that would work. I think the label of cheater is valid, but it seems like cruel and unusual punishment to not let them earn those points back. Talk about a personal purgatory for those who really care about achievement points!

  2. I think it’s interesting that they’re not letting the cheaters earn their points back, but honestly I think it’s suitable punishment. If they were allowed to earn those points back then there’s really no incentive for somebody already labeled as a cheater to just start cheating again, and be back up to their old score in no time. Plus, keep in mind that the cheaters are still able to earn points, they just can’t earn them back from the same games in the same ways. So if they got every possible point and achievement for, say, Half-Life 2, then there’s nothing they can do to get any points or achievements from that game, but when GTA IV comes up at the end of the month, they’ll be able to earn points and achievements from that game. So it’s not like they’re doomed forever, it’s just going to take a lot of work to get them out of the hole they’ve dug for themselves.

I wish the cheater status was its own achievement. So that the first time they open up the dashboard after the punishment took effect, something like this (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2259/2379103520_288f2e0f35.jpg?v=0) would pop up.

Thats one of the greatest things ive heard in a while. Im addicted to achievements and it actually makes me mad when the games themselves make them too hard to get (ie guitar hero… im terrible). If i found a way to cheat at it, i still wouldnt do it though.

lol, what’s the point for a gamer score anyways?!?!?

This is hilarious! Everyone has encountered those guys on XBOX Live that have to get a certain achievement or score to satisfy their dying need for an upgrade. I, myself, play games for the fun of it and on occasion for the reward. Anyone who has the audacity to cheat for a gamerscore is pathetic! Simply put, don’t give them back their “hard earned” points for a month or two…… and then have some mercy and give ‘em back half!
