Wii Can’t Handle The Evil!
The hype on Resident Evil 5 keeps increasing since there is still more information that everyone, save for the developers, do not know. However, in a recent interview Masachika Kawata, Resident Evil 5’s producer, informed fans that the game would not be coming to the Wii, at least not for a long while. The stated reason for this was that the Wii can’t handle the game’s title screen, let alone the game itself. This seems a little harsh, considering the Wii is not as underpowered as many would think.
With the console wars raging on, it seems that the Wii has lost a bit of momentum. Being told that the next Wii Resident Evil game will be “a couple of years down the road” is more than a little disappointing. It’s hard to believe Capcom’s reasoning behind this decision, especially due to their usually friendly attitude towards Nintendo. The talk of the Wii not having enough power to play the game isn’t quite the sound argument they think it is, and High Voltage Software’s Wii tech demo can prove it.

This is for the Wii?!
Claiming that their Quantum3 graphics engine (shown above) will allow Wii games to come close to, if not look just like, Xbox 360 and PS3 graphics, High Voltage Software may be the ones to show Capcom how wrong they are. The tech demo of the Quantum3 engine is quite impressive and High Voltage hopes it will encourage and inspire others by creating more graphically impressive games for the Wii.
With High Voltage’s game The Conduit looking as impressive as it does, I don’t see why a Resident Evil 5 Wii port wouldn’t be possible in the future, and sooner rather than later. This begs the question, just what is Capcom thinking? An even better question is, what do they have up their sleeve that they aren’t telling us?
