Ubisoft Developing for iPhone and iTouch

Ubisoft Hai GuyzAccording to Pauline Jacquey, executive producer of Games for Everyone, Ubisoft is developing games not just for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, but also for the iPhone and iTouch. In an interview with CasualGaming.biz, Jacquey said “At the minute, we’re only showing DS and Wii games, but we’ll be working on all other platforms. We don’t want to keep it too narrow.”

What kind of games are coming to the iPhone and iTouch? “When it comes to the mobile industry, Ubisoft sister company Gameloft looks after that… They will be borrowing more from the Games For Everyone range.” Games for Everyone- isn’t that Ubisoft’s casual gaming initiative? That means the Imagine series for tween girls will be even more widespread. Current Imagine titles: Figure Skater, Fashion Designer, Master Chef, Animal Doctor, Babyz. So many great stereotypical career paths to choose from? Last week, Ubisoft was shocked to learn that women can vote.
Of course, this change of direction comes as no surprise seeing that Ubisoft recently acquired Gameloft’s development studio in India. At least it’s good to hear that Gameloft is on board; they have a lot of experience with mobile games and are developing 15 iPhone games due to launch by the end of 2008. In fact, while looking through their extensive library of games, I stumbled upon everyone’s favorite grade school history lesson, Oregon Trail! Let’s hope that by the end of the year we will all be dying of dysentery while on the commute to work.
