Two Worlds: Epic Edition Epically Unappealing
Two Worlds’ publisher Southpeak Games has announced that this August is going to see the release of Two Worlds: Epic Edition for the PC. Ohhh, sounds epic! Hopefully more epic than what I played when I tried out this game back when it was first released.
Epic Edition will contain the original game, its two expansions (Tainted Blood and Curse of Souls), and over 70 online quests, 8 new multiplayer maps, an “innovative” PvP challenge in which “opponents battle to control magical orbs within a variety of arenas,” and the town of Tharnburg, which has an arena where you can fight each other. Looks like this “poor mans Oblivion” is getting less… poor.
I played this game on the Xbox 360 when it first came out, and…well, it was an experience I’ll never forget. Not in a good way. The combat was confusing, the graphics were not even close to what I expected, the dialogue sucked, and the frame rate was awful. I naively thought that maybe the online play was going to be its saving grace. After all, it was the biggest thing that set it apart from Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It ended up even worse than the single player. Multiplayer was so laggy that it took my character 5 seconds just to jump. I got frustrated, left him to his moon bounce, and never went back.
It seemed like it could have been a fun game with lots of content to enjoy; too bad developer Reality Pump didn’t let you play the fun version. Some previews claim that the game has been much improved in recent patches and its expansions, but it’s too late for me. Someone out there is probably looking forward to Epic Edition, so I have to applaud Reality Pump on supporting their game even though it’s received lackluster reviews across the board.
