Blizzard Implements Paid Character Re-Customization in WoW

“Looking for D to chest enchant,” might soon take on a whole new meaning for World of Warcraft players. Blizzard has implemented a character re-customization option, allowing players to change their characters’ names, facial features, hairstyle, and gender.

MMO Mount Wish List: Now With Less Unicorn

I’m not much of an experienced World of Warcraft player since I only logged a 10-week trial. And in the short time that I did play, only one thing motivated me: getting a sweet thing to ride. WoW features plenty of impressive rides that players can use and abuse, but I feel like Blizzard could use some fresh rideables in order to keep things interesting. Here are some ideas.

Wrath of the Lich King beta has arrived!

Beta ImageThursday night: a night of either great excitement, or disappointment. This hinged on if you were lucky enough to find an email from Blizzard lighting up your inbox. For most of us, disappointment, though a number of you lucky dogs out there received this most treasured surprise: an invite to the WotLK beta. We have a quick rundown from the past few nights of what we now know, thanks to squelched alpha voices, and the new beta testers.

World of WarCraft on Joost

joost.jpg A few years ago, it was the hottest ticket to watch online program. Since then, I’ve pretty much ignored it.

Recently, German e-sports team SK Gaming (with help from Amok studios) began streaming live World of Warcraft content on Joost. And even though this isn’t going to break down the wall to spread gaming to a wider audience, it does one important thing: It gets folks to try Joost (if you haven’t) or rediscover it (it’s come a long way since the beta version).

The Mage’s Court: How WOW fares in today’s legal system

It used to be that the legal system didn’t have much respect for the gaming industry. Case in point: the court proceedings involving Sega CD’s Night Trap, in which the game producers weren’t even allowed to speak on behalf of their game, after it received only 14 seconds of viewing time at the hearing. That trial lead us towards the ESRB game rating system. If only they had had Chancellor William B. Chandler III on their side. Just before the Activision-Vivendi merger, the Wayne County Employee Retirement System stepped in for the block. Luckily, Chandler III was there. He’s the kind of judge you would want to come down to the basement and have a beer with you.

WoW: To Roll or Not to Roll, That is the Question

wowDice rolling: where does it belong?  Some might say that it’s best suited for the craps table in Las Vegas, immediately followed by a rude and sober awakening in the dumpster behind the Riviera (that’s hopefully more of a one time thing). A place where dice rolling is a relevant and constant issue is in World of Warcraft. In general terms, there are two forms of dice rolling: the looting system and the simple /roll command, both of which are used to generate a random number to designate ranking.  The big issue for some is when should the /roll command take precedence over the built-in Need/Greed system while sharing precious loot?

World of WarCraft: Level 70 is Only the Beginning

WoW FearOut of the ten million WoW players, less than five percent are interested or even aware of end-game content. Most players know that level 70 is the highest level that you can achieve; however, many of them don’t know that level 70 is where the most interesting part of WoW begins.

Instead of gaining more experience to level, players work extremely hard to acquire better gear and items. This requires hours of dedication inside dungeons and on raids (a.k.a., much larger dungeons). Raids must be run well by leaders; otherwise, they fail.
