On December 2nd, 2009 I headed over to Varnish Gallery in San Francisco to attend the Wake of Guybrush Threepwood, protagonist of Telltale Games’ Tales of Monkey Island. Unfortunately in Episode Four of the series, Threepwood lost his life and Telltale was reminiscing about the life and times of their ageless hero.
But more seriously, Telltale Games was showing off the last episode, Rise of the Pirate God, before its December 8th release.
It’s already the 4th chapter of five for Tales of Monkey Island’s first season. And to to put a disclaimer right up front, this fourth chapter is the first one I’m playing (Egad, you say, how could I pass up on the three before it? Sorry, it just happened that way).
The story of episode four starts off with all but a few of the inhabitants of Flotsam Island infected with the “Pox of LeChuck.” Guybrush has been captured by pirate hunter Morgan LeFlay and is delivered to the mad scientist Marquis de Singe, who intends to use Guybrush in his experiments for harvesting voodoo powers. Instead, Guybrush is summoned to trial for several civil misdemeanors – the highest of which is infecting everyone on the island.
The third episode in a four part series, Telltale Games’ Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Adventures: Muzzled! is a welcome departure from the saturated market of testosterone fueled action packed games.
Forcing players to use their brains (a scary thought for some), players must guide either Wallace or Gromit (most of the times Gromit) through a multitude of puzzles in order to solve the greater mystery surrounding West Wallaby Street.
When I first started Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Adventures: Fright of the Bumblebees, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Though after playing through the game, I found that Telltale Games understood the license that they acquired and continued the humor and quality that the shorts and movies had. With the second episode, The Last Resort, Telltale Games improves on the quality of the first episode while changing the theme from a point-and-click adventure, to a mystery solving quest.
In celebration of the release of the Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Adventures series, GotGame is holding an art contest for our readers. Until April 24th, we will be running the contest with help from Telltale Games.
Note: A technical error caused any entries submitted to be discarded and not received. We apologize for the technical errors and will be extending the contest until April 24th. If you previously submitted an entry, please resubmit to media@gotgame.com, and in turn - contestants can submit more than one entry!
I had a chance to have a hands-on play test of Telltale Games second episode of their Wallace and Gromit series. It’s apparent that Telltale is working hard on making sure the license is being used to its fullest extent. I enjoyed the first episode in the series, though I had a little trouble with some of the puzzles in the game. This second episode looks to follow a different direction.
