Today, virtually all internet users own a few—give or take a couple hundred—stolen soundtracks, games, videos and or, all of the above. With the popular combination of high-speed internet, removable disk hard drives, and pocket-sized iPods, illegal online downloading has become a tempting source for obtaining your favorite entertainment.
The typical fare when you think “alternate universe” is ultra-modernized, sped-up and shiny, with floating cars. Like the Jetsons, but a bit grittier. However, there’s a new retro-futuristic that’s gaining popularity and esteem. While most other science fiction/fantasy game settings out there deal with what is most otherworldly, Steampunk threatens to go back in history and draw something much closer to both literature and historical context. It threatens, in short, to make history fun.

For the past few years, Amazon has allowed people to purchase and download software directly from their website. Even so, it’s gone widely unnoticed as the only software they’ve been doing this with is TurboTax, though they do offer a similar service for other forms of entertainment, such as ebooks, movies and music. Now it appears they’re looking to expand further, based on a job posting on Gamasutra, which states that they’re looking for a Software Development Engineer, specifically to build the foundation for a game distribution system.
