I’ve played about 200 matches of Soul Calibur IV online since it debuted weeks ago. While I have had epic matches with soul-shattering defeats and triumphant victories, one thing has been bugging me from the get-go: the lack of character selection variety, particularly the ranked matches. I started logging all of the matches that I played and asked some users on Soul Calibur message boards to do the same. These are the results:

By now, we have all come to the realization that sex sells. Video games marketed to the teen and beyond generation have recently begun to include even more explicit posturing from the female entities. More recently, you have probably noticed such content from Soul Calibur IV. As if the protruding breasts and exposed underwear fail to warrant your attention, Namco looks to direct that attention to the downloadable content that can erect some activity from your pocket book.

What do restaurant prep, surgeries, and break dancing have in common? You can do all of these things this summer thanks to new video game releases! Excited? Don’t be. Despite a handful of exceptions, the games this season has to offer us can be summarized in two words: ho and hum.
Last night, I sat down to watch the recently released Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem movie on DVD with my girlfriend. About an hour later and a bag of popcorn less, she was asleep and I was asking myself, “Did the Pred-Alien really just barf up a baby Alien?” I went to bed wondering why these mashups never seem to work, only to wake to news of Midway’s upcoming Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe.
OMG and WTF! These where my initial feelings once I heard that Soul Calibur IV was more than just a pleasant dream. Well, that and the discomfort I felt from the mess I produced in my pants once the screenshots finally downloaded. And boy were the three seconds of downloading worth the wait.
Earlier this month, Sony introduced a new addition to the PlayStation Network: Qore.
The company describes it as a gaming-lifestyle program, packed with developer interviews, screenshots, downloads and other original content (and an easter egg here and there). It’s fully interactive, allowing the viewer to browse through the content any way you want, and it’s in glorious high definition, too.
