Once you’ve had your share of all those “best of 2008” lists, come along with GotGame as we look over the top PC games of 2009 according to hype, which has been a constant factor in how all games nowadays are perceived by the fans. Just listen to Peter Molyneux for five minutes if you don’t believe us. Leave your sophisticated taste at the door, because that’s not how we picked our winners and runner-ups. In SocioTown, the latest MMO from Outside the Box, developers are putting an entirely new spin on defining your own game. In fact, they’re letting you define exactly who can and cannot occupy your game space–and quickly. With the choice to toss out, punch out, or bat out any offending players, you don’t need a second thought or even a reason for being rude. If WoW implemented some similar immediate-batting abilities say, for funeral crashers, maybe the world of MMOs would be a happier, or rather more mournful, place.

With the undeniable popularity of Sims 2 and the hype and universal appeal tied to Spore, EA continues to be a big hitter in games that aren’t based around the typical RPG/shooter elements that have become the industry’s bread and butter. With development on the Hasbro licensing it acquired last fall, as well as first-looks at the Wii line of EA games under the All-Play branding, EA is sure to attract an even larger and more casual demographic to its own brand of fun.

Weeks after the closing of EA-land, formerly known as The Sims Online (TSO), the head of the Sims Division at EA is hinting at a multiplayer future for this popular life-simulating strategy game. Isn’t she, like Merlin, getting the timeline backwards?
Surely the bestselling computer game of all time would have experienced a smoother transition from single- to multiplayer, especially a game with a social needs bar; friendless Sims end up moping around on the couch and experiencing Social Bunny hallucinations. Yet TSO was poorly received.
