With a surprisingly catchy and soothing melody, lyrics both touching and nerdgasmic, and a singer/songwriter wearing a yarn Waluigi ’stache taped to his face, you have no reason to not hit play. And again. Let’s go again.
In honor of the recent romantic spirit—James Mielke proposing to his girlfriend with the help of Final Fantasy legends, Christmas commercials begging my boyfriend to buy me jewelry I don’t want–and Chrono Trigger’s recent re-release, today’s Video of the Day celebrates the joining of these two in ways the schmoopiest RPG nerds have only dreamed of. One hacked copy of Chrono Trigger, one inserted mountain of nostalgia, and one girlfriend playing through the game for the first time make this one of the most touching and enviable proposals to date.
The best things in life are free, so the saying goes. But the premium content, the stuff like significant others and video games, cost money like magic spells cost mana. So if you want the best of anything you better be prepared to shell out some coin or, if you live in Hyrule, rupees. The fact of the matter is that gamers have two loves out of necessity; they need a companion, but they also need video games. The question today is which one costs more.

We’ve got gaming geeks, anime fanatics, academic dorks, the socially awkward and even band geeks (yes, I know there are plenty more, but let’s focus on these). You’ve seen the dozens of articles on how to get your lady into the room while you get your frag on (if she wasn’t in there already). But now that you can have your cake and eat it too, what’s your flavor? Do you play side by side, or do you simply look to her for support?
Games are known for their gratuitous violence. It’s a given that at any time in most games a head can explode, or you’re going to shoot something at someone. Those are the facts, and we as gamers are cool with that. As soon as games cross that line and move onto sexual innuendos and other such themes, things get a little dicey. NSFW, by the way.
I’m sure I’m not alone in this, but my significant other is adamantly not a gamer. So, my penchant for shooting aliens, or throwing magic spells at dragons is lost on her altogether. She can’t fathom my lust for new gaming toys or why I droll over screenshots of upcoming releases. Sometimes it is necessary to be better than an average partner, sometimes you need to strap your boots up tight, lock-and-load and get ready to level up!
