Retro gaming goes into overtime with the announcement of Tecmo Bowl Throwback, a remake of the classis SNES football game Tecmo Super Bowl. Coming to Playstation Network and Xbox LIVE this spring, the remake will feature refreshed “2D+3D” graphics, 32 teams and customizable rosters, classic game modes and of course online multiplayer and leaderboards.
The option to revert to old-school 2D graphics will also be there should you want to bask in that retro nostalgia. Expect good things as Southend Interactive has experience with recent remakes of classics games like Lode Runner and R-Type.
Check out screens, which include retro and remake comparison shots, after the break.

Playstation 3, Review
Digital translations of time-tested older arcade games is a tricky thing. For those who were able to go to the arcades and drop quarters, the titles that were bought by the owners was a special thing. Pinball games are some of the oldest arcade games that still exist.
Though now they are more of a novelty than something special, Zen Studios released Zen Pinball for the PlayStation Network and have been releasing tribute tables for some of the bigger titles on the PlayStation 3. I was able to give the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 table a try, and while Zen Studios can replicate the table, memories of the physical machine do outweigh the digital version. Though this is as close the digital version can get to the real thing.

Last Saturday, John Diamonon of Capcom posted in his PlayStation blog that Capcom is hard at work to become the #1 digital publisher on the PlayStation Network. After seeing much success in 2008 (thanks to hits like Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix), Capcom and SCEA are forming a plan to make more downloadable content available through PSN in the future.

Headlines, Playstation 3
Oh, BioShock. Is there really a way to fully enumerate how wonderful an experience you are? Maybe it’s the incredibly unique setting, the idea of genetic amplification, or simply the recurring nightmares I have about freaky little mutated girls drawing fluid from me with giant syringes that makes this game so memorable. Originally released only for Xbox 360 and Windows, the world of Rapture finally came to the PlayStation 3 last month, and Sony stalwarts are getting some bonuses for their patience: namely, PS3-exclusive downloadable content. Details on the DLC, due out November 20th, have recently been revealed.

Prior to Xbox LIVE and Playstation Network, game demos only existed with periodicals on newsstands. Magazines usually had demos on the accompanying CD/DVD, sometimes with coverage of a game on the interior. Occasionally, certain games came packaged with brief, selected demos (Parasite Eve on PlayStation came with a demo of Xenogears, and videos of Brave Fencer Musashi, Bushido Blade 2, and Final Fantasy VIII). Now with Xbox LIVE and PSN, gamers can download demos and have time to test out a wide array of games without dropping any additional coinage. Does this hands-on time help in a purchasing decision?
