Digital translations of time-tested older arcade games is a tricky thing. For those who were able to go to the arcades and drop quarters, the titles that were bought by the owners was a special thing. Pinball games are some of the oldest arcade games that still exist.
Though now they are more of a novelty than something special, Zen Studios released Zen Pinball for the PlayStation Network and have been releasing tribute tables for some of the bigger titles on the PlayStation 3. I was able to give the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 table a try, and while Zen Studios can replicate the table, memories of the physical machine do outweigh the digital version. Though this is as close the digital version can get to the real thing.
There are days when a developer is hiding out in the city and wants to show off a new game that they’re working on. Other times, the developer is running around demoing a title at a writer’s house or apartment.
In this case, W!Games came by Monday to show me their new PSN and XBLA title Greed Corp, a turn-based strategy game that does away with long winded matches and introduces something not often seen in turn-based games: the need for efficient expedience.
Greed Corp is the first of a series of games that takes place in the universe that W!Games have created called Mistbound, a world that is crumbling at the feet of those who live in it.
W!Games’ plan on creating different genres in the same universe is a good one, because they are able to expand the world of Mistbound rather than jump somewhere else with a new title.
It appears that more developers are gearing up for the release of the PSPGo and working on downloadable titles. The internal 16 gigs of storage on the PSP Go along with gamers who have collected Memory Stick Pro Duos are going to have a lot of games to download from the PlayStation Network this coming Fall and Holiday season.
Frima Studios is currently developing Zombie Tycoon to release near Halloween. With the “holiday” approaching and the constantly rising popularity of zombies in general, Frima Studios could have a good seller on their hands.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 released for Xbox Live last week, granting the fans of the series on that console some respite. This may truly be the year of the fighting game genre, even if some of the releases are ports.
The final set of videos from Capcom highlight two of the deadliest villains in their respective series. Magneto has always been a difficult character to master and play against with his wide ranged attacks and normal moves that can combo into air attacks. M. Bison retained all of his deadliness from Street Fighter and became even more of a threat when combined with the right set of characters.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 released for Xbox Live Arcade and gamers should be downloading it and not sitting around playing other XBLA titles. Spider-Man and Strider have always been a couple characters that knowledgeable players can use to great advantages.
Slowly, but surely the release of Marvel vs Capcom 2 is coming for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. While the 360 is going to receive the game first, PlayStation fans will be able to play the game in August. In these sets of videos, Marvel vs Capcom 2 focuses on the two metal men, Iron Man and Megaman.
The videos highlight the strategies of both Iron Man and Megaman and the last video highlights combat between the two rivals.
I was never really good at playing these characters, but with the online release of the game, I will be learning more of the characters beyond my few good combinations.
