If you’re reading articles at GotGame, chances are you’ve played Super Mario World. If you haven’t, punch yourself. And then try to find a copy on eBay or something, because it’s a great game. For the rest of you SNES-literate readers, chances are you’ve kept up with the most recent run for the oval office. Well, the good folks over at Zensoft are in the exact same boat and have decided to showcase their appreciation for both Super Mario World and president-elect Barack Obama by creating Super Obama World.
Once the votes are tallied tonight, and the cries of joy or rage ring out across the country, the political storm we’ve been facing the past couple of years shall begin to subside. But Pandemic Studios is going to continue stoking the political flame, so to speak. In a video report on G4TV’s X-Play, it was announced that an upcoming batch of DLC for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames will feature playable versions of both Barack Obama and Sarah Palin.
In honor of Election Day and my strange obsession with breakdancing, I thought I’d share this gem I found. After watching Obama’s funky fresh moves, I’m especially proud to be voting for him today. Enjoy!
In this year’s presidential election, neither candidate is really touching on issues that we gamers hold in high esteem. Granted, they have plenty of more important issues to worry about such as the housing market collapse and the stock market going down faster than a woman whose business model is “me love you long time.” Each candidate is trying to appease gaming audiences in their own way; but both have made statements that have flown under the radar, which should interest gamers because they regard the current ESRB rating system.
It’s no secret that 18-34 year old males are a large, but hard to reach group. So it should also be no surprise that political campaigns are willing to try new strategies in an attempt to sway them. The latest tactic? In-game advertising. After all, video games are a hit with that particular demographic. With the November election just around the corner, Obama’s campaign is placing the ads only in the swing states Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin. The ads themselves will be no different than the normal in-game ads and will mostly be in the form of stadium signs, billboards and posters in the digital worlds.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another edition of Ben-talks-fighting-games. Only on the internet can a man like me have his thoughts heard on a subject he has no experience in creating, or relative success in playing. However, when it comes to picking characters to fight each other, I’m a natural. Don’t fight it. Let’s get ready to rumble!
