Retro gaming fans and jellybean aficionados alike rejoice. Today Majesco Entertainment announced a Nintendo Wii sequel to the NES classic A Boy and his Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia. The game’s development corresponds with the original’s 20th anniversary and will feature hand-drawn and painted animation technology. The game is being developed by WayForward, which developed Contra 4 and Shantae.

A custom Nintendo Wii has been created just for the Marriott. The Wii comes with 20+ games, including Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Wii Sports, and Wii Fit. The system will give guests access to a menu that will allow them to choose the game they want—a brilliant alternative to worrying about every individual CD. And, as new games come out they can be added to the custom system. Rooms equipped with a Nintendo Wii will cost more than other rooms, but the price is rumored to be small, especially in comparison to the ol’ 6 dollars an hour for Super Mario on the SNES in some hotels back in the day.

Okay, so here’s the deal: when you read this, I want you to grab a beer, or whatever (I’m having some Beam on the rocks) and recline for a minute. I want to have what St. Louis radio commentator, Dave Glover, calls an honest, 3 beer discussion… about gaming console fanboyism. I think there needs to be a hippie-like conciliatory discourse with less patchouli. No, it’s not the most pressing issue of our time, but it is one that rears its ugly head all too often on social websites and the comment sections on Kotaku, etcetera. Most often, these arguments center around sales numbers, but I don’t think that the bandwagon argument is the most meaningful in quality debates… especially about video games.
