On Thursday the staff at Mod DB were given the chance to play the new Deus Ex total-conversion PC mod, claiming the moniker of The Nameless Mod. Taking over seven years to complete, with mounting anticipation despite numerous delays, The Nameless Mod is sure to make a large impact with fans of the original Deus Ex when it is released on February 24th.

It’s quite difficult to describe how legendary GoldenEye 007 was, is, and forever shall be. Everyone who owned a Nintendo 64 in the 90’s either had a copy or wanted one. Truly, it was one the earliest first-person shooters to gain such a wide spectrum of fans, becoming a household name overnight. Though its halcyon days are all but over, a team of mod designers have been hard at work on GoldenEye: Source, the new Half-Life 2 mod that seeks to pay tribute to this epic shooter. Released last week on February 6th, Beta 3 of GoldenEye: Source has already shown to be quite promising.

It’s somewhat of a rarity to witness an ambitious mod concept to be relentlessly toiled upon. Often, mod developers are forced to rely heavily on support from their fans, in addition to countless hours (off the clock, mind you) of coding, animating, and mapping on their part, in order to see a mod through to even its most elementary stages. Indeed, mods are somewhat a labor of love; though, they consistently remain the underdogs that everyone loves to cheer for — especially when they are shown to produce something truly amazing. Released January 28th, the new version (1.5) of Zombie Panic! Source, a popular survival-horror mod for Half-Life 2 that pits survivors versus zombies in a terrifying struggle, has been receiving a lot of hype in the past few days. With new maps, improved gameplay, and the introduction of a “ZP:S Barricade System,” fans are still getting used to the next installment of the series, though seem excited for this long-overdue update.
