Disclaimer: the following lame anecdote contains incessant ramblings, Life with Louie style reminiscence, a dog’s toenail and even a phallic joke or three. In the midst of all this there’s also an account of video games used to cure a bad habit. Let the good times roll. Read More »
Gamers like shiny things. Especially PC gamers. From bloom effects to fancy computer cases, this breed of gamer wants their system to live fast and die young. Too young, if you ask me. Just look at the usefulness that last year’s gaming computer can yield:
I’m not really a big “pet person.” Pretty much anything with a furry pelt induces a sneeze-fest in me. But video game creatures are imaginary, and thus won’t make my allergies flare up, which is precisely why I’d make an exception to my ‘no pets’ rule if I were able to have one. Yes, I understand that there is a huge, gaping hole in my logic here, but bear with me. If video games were real, aside from the world encountering multiple catastrophes of epic proportions, I’d have a menagerie of bizarre critters inhabiting my house.
Robots are as much a part of gaming as growth-inducing mushrooms and seemingly endless collectibles. In a wide variety of genres, gamers are given the opportunity to engage in cybernetic shenanigans, whether it’s building, destroying, riding, or flat-out being a robot. At first, I thought it’d be a good idea to try and rank some of gaming’s greatest robots; after all, gamers love their ordered lists. Try as I might, however, I just couldn’t bring myself to rank them. Instead, avoiding the whole apples vs. oranges argument altogether, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite robots from my personal gaming experiences in a list with only a slightly particular order.
I have this weird problem where it is hard for me to enjoy music that doesn’t have vocals. This includes jazz, classical, Canadian fiddlers and sadly, video game music. I can enjoy it while playing since it adds a sense of atmosphere, but on my personal music player? No thanks. Luckily, there are heroes like the maker of this video who add their own lyrics to classic video game songs so people like me can enjoy them in everyday situations. Set your ears to stunned.
Though the bouncing pseudo-violence of the Super Smash Brothers series may be enough innovation to keep most game-o-holics satisfied, many from the community plug in to each incarnation to see the new retrospective of playable characters. Each game is like a quick look back in video game history, allowing them to finally play their favorite characters against each other in a less than deadly melee. As the next volume in the series is looming, let’s take a look at some of the character’s that deserve to make the call sheet.
