Intel’s Revenue Expected to Take a Hit


The economy is struggling; unemployment is high, sales are sluggish as demand is waning. Of course, you didn’t need me to tell you that, the news media has done more than its share of bemoaning over current conditions. The current environment has affected everyone; from the lower class individual struggling to make ends meet, to the fortune 500 companies trying to maintain their profit margin, keeping at bay the need for layoffs of both their white and blue collar employees. Intel, the manufacturing chip giant, is the next of a long line of companies feeling the pinch.

Intel Atom netbooks get boost from Nvidia


Asus netbookNetbooks are considered to be internet/word processing-only laptops. With smaller components and size, most consumers would not attempt to try to play a game on a nine-inch screen. Nvidia has announced that it will be using the GeForce 9400 mGPU with Intel’s Atom CPU, designated Ion, to assist in graphics computing.

Gaming for Charity – Sacramento Habitants Get Their Game ON!


Intel LAN FestOn June 7th, 150 gamers opened up their wallets and their hearts to participate in a huge LAN tournament hosted by Intel. For a $35 entrance fee, gamers were able to compete against one another in titles such as Company of Heroes, Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 2, and Guitar Hero III. All entrance fees benefited Robert Family Development Center and The United Way California Capitol Region.

Intel says “No Soup For You” to Nvidia


Intel vs. NVIDIAA showdown is brewing between NVIDIA, one of the largest makers of gaming graphic chips, and Intel, the largest producer of PC processors, over Intel’s decision to not yet release the specifications of the USB 3.0 technology that it is currently developing. Intel has cited that they have put “gazillions of dollars and bazillions of engineering man-hours” into the project and do not want to prematurely release information that might prove incompatible with hardware down the line.

Here’s the rub: USB 3.0 technology is a high-speed, data connection that will soon come standard in all PCs. In CNet’s words, “It is significant not only because all future PCs and devices will use connectors based on the standard, but also because it will offer 10 times the speed of USB 2.0.” Read More »

PC Gaming Alliance: Pros & Cons

Last month at GDC, several of the the global leaders of the gaming world, announced that they had formed the PC Gaming Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to advancing the PC as the gaming platform of choice. Almost all of the members of the PCGA are gaming industry titans: Microsoft, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Epic Games and so forth.
