Disturbed (and Loving It): Top 5 Games of Mayhem and Destruction

Murder! Death! Kill! Actually, the game that comes from shouldn’t be anywhere close to a top 5 list of games featuring mayhem and destruction, but I can’t resist a catchy beginning when I hear one. Where did near lock Grand Theft Auto rank? Why are simulation titles even receiving consideration? Take a look after the jump and see if you agree or disagree with these destructive ramblings!

Game Real Estate: Where Would You Live?

MMORPGs created a trend by letting gamers spend so much time in a game world that they arguably live there. Second Life took this concept to a new level, interfacing with our real lives by offering in-game goods and services for actual money. Supposing that other game worlds could be easily lived in (as our normal, non-hero selves), what digital universe would you like to call home?

Show me the Scummy! GTA 4 Police Chase Ratings

We’ve all been there, jumping out of our seats as our virtual counterpart drops his final grenade into the crowded showdown that is the conclusion of a Grand Theft Auto 4 police chase. Your fifteen-minute cross-city extravaganza led you over highways, roads, alleys and sidewalks. You broke for no one, smashing both thugs and grandmothers with an equal lack of discretion. City damages were estimated to be upwards of 38-trillion dollars, and the entire police force, SWAT team and Army loathe you for taking the lives of hundreds of their comrades. You wreaked havoc amongst the thousands of digital citizens in Liberty City, and all you have to show for your charade is a hefty bill from the hospital. Isn’t it time you received some infamous recognition?

Top Five Movie Video Games That Should Have Been

ET The only thing worse than spending $10 to see a terrible movie adaptation of a great game is to pay $50 to own the terrible game adaptation of a great movie. We all know that movie games are never a good way to spend your birthday money (Did you know that Porky’s had a game?). If you ask someone what their favorite game based on a film was, most likely, they will be at a loss for words. This may be an issue of poor source material. Unfortunately, lots of great moments on the silver screen are being neglected by game developers. Here’s my list of game tie-ins that need to happen ASAP.

Everyone’s Two Favorite Topics: GTA IV and Pedophilia

gullivergame.jpgNo, I still haven’t played GTA IV, don’t ask me to explain why. Apparently, though, some guy who has, and seemingly doesn’t have a degree in Psychology, any experience in law enforcement, and has never read Johnathan Swift, was seriously offended by a joke in this adult-centric video game. The man theorizes that people will become pedophiles not by playing GTA IV, but by stumbling across a fake, FBI-seized porn website within the game called littlelacysurprisepageant.com, which isn’t any more suspicious than actual legitimate porn site URLs that I probably can’t list off here. Needless to say, the source of this story was a tabloid, Britain’s The Star.

Video game based on Virginia Tech meant to help victims grieve

TechTears School shootings are horrible events, and video games are often vilified if it’s learned the shooter(s) played them. This is magnified when some disturbed individual makes a game which glorifies the shooter. But what about a game where the object is to deal with the grief after such an incident? One game developer wants to create such a game, using the Virginia Tech shooting from 2007 as his scenario.

E3 2008 Rundown: Tuesday, July 15th’s Events

Even though GotGame didn’t make it to E3 this year (we were dancing for the people stuck in iPhone 3G lines…or trying to get one ourselves), we’re still keeping up on the event and its announcements, and will be keeping you up on it, too. Nintendo and Sony had their press conferences yesterday. Though there were some yawns throughout the day, we stayed awake for the sake of announcements like MAG, and the (unique) decision to bring GTA to the DS.
