What’s the best time period for a video game that still revolves around Earth in some way? The cop-out answer is “the time period that best fits the game’s needs,” but we should look deeper than that. Grand Theft Auto IV might have lost some of its charm had Liberty City not been like a seedier version of present day NYC, but it still might have been fun to see Niko throw Caligula out of a chariot and cause mayhem in Ancient Rome. So which time is best for Earth and for video games? Arguments after the jump.

There are many games friends will play together – sports, video games, and even board games. One that’s always proven to be hilarious is Fuck, Marry, Kill. The basic premise is three choices are given, the person playing has to choose one for each category and give their reasons. In the spirit of video games, I’m going to play.

The results are in, and it’s a tie. It has been an interesting research process, and despite my hypothesis, storyline-based and graphics-based games currently share the majority of Steam’s popularity contest. The PC gaming market is a very broad one, and good thing, too. It looks like every angle of research production (when done well) is given its due. At least for now. In looking at the top six most popular games currently being sold on Steam, the score is 3 to 3.

The term “badass” has been thrown around way too much in recent years, commonly used to describe someone who is able to beat up others in a stylistic fashion. This is wrong. This ability only makes someone “bad,” “tough,” or “Vin Diesel,” and frankly this type of action hero is a dime a dozen. No…to be considered a true “badass,” much more emphasis must be placed on the “ass.”

Grand Theft Auto, PC
PC gamers, rejoice: America’s favorite immigrant, Niko Bellic, is making his second big move, and this time his boat has landed on the shores of the PC gaming realm. After over six months of speculation, Rockstar officially announced that Grand Theft Auto IV will be released for Windows in November; and with promises of an expanded multiplayer experience, there’s no reason to believe that this title will be anything less than a classic.

Game Design, Movies
The only thing worse than spending $10 to see a terrible movie adaptation of a great game is to pay $50 to own the terrible game adaptation of a great movie. We all know that movie games are never a good way to spend your birthday money (Did you know that Porky’s had a game?). If you ask someone what their favorite game based on a film was, most likely, they will be at a loss for words. This may be an issue of poor source material. Unfortunately, lots of great moments on the silver screen are being neglected by game developers. Here’s my list of game tie-ins that need to happen ASAP.
