Mod DB’s Best Art Direction Award for 2008


Although we are well into 2009, Mod DB’s 7th annual Mod of the Year (2008) awards are still underway. In fact, on Friday the award for the Best Art Direction in a TC (total conversion) mod was announced, bestowing The Delta Sector - a Far Cry mod - with the winning title.

Bringing Back the Classics: Golden Eye: Source


It’s quite difficult to describe how legendary GoldenEye 007 was, is, and forever shall be. Everyone who owned a Nintendo 64 in the 90’s either had a copy or wanted one. Truly, it was one the earliest first-person shooters to gain such a wide spectrum of fans, becoming a household name overnight. Though its halcyon days are all but over, a team of mod designers have been hard at work on GoldenEye: Source, the new Half-Life 2 mod that seeks to pay tribute to this epic shooter. Released last week on February 6th, Beta 3 of GoldenEye: Source has already shown to be quite promising.

Fiction Writer Graham Joyce Joins up with id Software


GotGame DoomWith Doom 4 announced last May, many fans are anxious to find out exactly what id Software has in store. Besides a brief Quakecon preview, things are sill very much under wraps. So, it’s nice to hear that Graham Joyce, the well-known English fiction writer, has been chosen to help drive the story and lore behind Doom 4.

Video Game Crossovers: Some Are Actually Welcome


Video game crossovers have a low success rate, like less than 25%…okay, worse. Imperial stormtroopers shoot better by comparison. This doesn’t mean there isn’t potential for a good game crossover. I think great games could be created if developers got a little creative, put some copyright issues aside, and most importantly, listen to what gamers want.
