League of Legends Snowdown Showdown


League of Legends is still in Pre-Season allowing fans to get a feel for the game and level their summoners before Season 1 begins next year, but Riot Games announced their first annual Snowdown Showdown taking place December 16, 2009 to January 6, 2010.

To celebrate, Riot Games is offered limited edition content for the title for this event. Examples of the content are a holiday variation of a map, Holiday themed Champion skins, Runes based on the season, and items.

The Free To Play, Microtransaction Model


gotgame microtransactionDuring my time at the Game Developers Conference, I came across a few developers who were planning on using the free to play with microtransaction model. While this type of business model isn’t new, even to the United States; it isn’t something that is used as wide as the basic subscription model that most large developers and publishers use. The free to play model appears like a more secure revenue stream than the standard monthly subscription model.
