Bethesda Softworks had their hands full when they decided to take on Fallout 3. Not only did they have to craft a next-gen version of a universe that thousands of gamers love and have been missing for a decade, but they also had to appeal to a massive audience of people who have never played a Fallout game in their lives, yet wondered what all the fuss was about. Here at GotGame, we are fortunate enough to have both of these demographics represented to review the title for us. Oliver Saenz is a massive Fallout fan who has been educating the rest of us on the intricacies of the Fallout world, while Graham Bennett is a fan of Bethesda’s previous work, but has never played Fallout 1 or 2. War…war never changes… But Fallout has evolved.
My level of anticipation was almost as high as my level of apprehension when I loaded up Fallout 3 for the first time. I had put down $54.99 to play this on my PC, but that number was dwarfed by the $200 I spent upgrading my video card in order to play this game. But my apprehension ran far deeper than any wallet-related fears: in my numerous Fallout-related articles here at GotGame, I have stressed time and time again that the Fallout universe is one of the most engrossing, mesmerizing, cinematic, energetic, lovable, believable, detailed, makes-you-proud-to-be-a-gamer gaming universes ever created. A decade after the release of Fallout 2, the Fallout 2 cinematic where the ancient oil tanker comes to life still takes my breath away. Without a single doubt in my mind, I truly believe that Fallout 1 and 2 deserve to take their place as two of the most important video games ever created, as well as two of the greatest.

There’s plenty of reason to look forward to the upcoming Fallout 3. For starters, it’s being handled by a company known for its “Game of the Year” awards, genre-redefining RPG games, and a sheer in-game size and depth that rivals the Grand Theft Auto series. But I’m looking forward to something much more meaningful (at least to me): the return of one of the most interesting, most detailed, most engaging post-apocalyptic gaming universes ever created. While the complete Fallout history would take at least a few days to completely learn, here’s a quick step-by-step of the important rules, regulations, history and quirks of the Fallout universe.

After ten years of hibernation, the once-epic Fallout series has been woken up and taken off of life support courtesy of Bethesda Game Studios. The makers of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion promise to champion the franchise back to its sardonic, grisly roots with insanely detailed graphics and a dynamic world where even the most mundane of choices could have earth-shattering consequences. Long-time Fallout fans have reason to rejoice…or do they?

For as long as games have had fanboys, those fanboys have tried to recreate the elements of worlds they love using the much less cooperative matter of reality. On the other hand, some games just happen to feature foods that already exist, whether we’d like them to or not. Here are some of my favorites:

New screens of the successor to the hit Fallout series have just been released from Bethesda Softworks. Though several Fallout spin-offs have been produced, this third installment promises to be a true successor to the original two, the initial attempt codenamed Van Buren (by the all-but-defunct) having been scrapped in 2003.
