Mass Effect 2’s Cerberus Network is DLC “pipeline”

zaeed1Bioware’s Mass Effect 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games for this year. But hype alone is not what sells games and brings profit for publisher EA.

In order to curb used-game resale prices that the developer and publisher doesn’t see a penny on, the “Cerberus Network” was revealed yestrerday as an in-game content and DLC delivery “pipeline,” in addition to monetizing future DLC updates for gamers who buy used (or other wise “not new”) copies of ME2.

Army of Two: 40th Day Trailer

Army of Two was a great third person shooter with a few problems. The A.I. for the co-op player wasn’t always present, and even sometimes it was smarter to go through the mission solo rather than wait.

It looks like Army of Two: 40th Day is going to fix all the problems that plagued the original game and then some. Urban combat was always where Army of Two excelled and with the environments shown in the previous trailers, there should be something amazing coming.

EA Sports: Running Out of Ideas

easports GotGameOne of the biggest announcements coming from EA at E3, unsurprisingly was related to their famed Madden franchise. And there is no doubt that their plans to include playable online franchises in a 32 player league are exciting.

Lately though, it seems that newer installments of these sports games from companies like EA, Konami, and 2K, have been lacking new features.

Instead, as the 2010 series of sports games come out, I’m afraid that this lack of ingenuity will lead to each successive game being nothing more than a glorified graphical and roster update.

Maybe I Just Don’t Get It

crysis-1For my first non-introductory rant, I really wanted to write an obsolete review. You see, for Christmas this year I received a laptop that has some pretty solid horsepower (compared to my old college desktop that could hardly run Age of Empires II) and in my haste to celebrate my brand new PC I decided to pick up Crysis.

And what is the first thing that all game journalists do after they get a new game? They review it; even if it’s too old to be news but too new to be retro.

Anyway, I kind of figured that there might be other people in similar boats who are finally upgrading their computers who might want to know if this ocular feast is actually worth playing. To those of you out there, I just want to say that the on board Vista game Chess Titans is entertaining me better than Crysis is right now.

EA Charging Extra to Re-download Titles

Advances in technology have generally opened new doors for businesses and consumers alike, ranging from cheaper products to easier methods of procuring products, such as online shopping. The video game market has been no exception, as they have recently begun taking advantage of online distribution, cutting out retailers, and offering consumers the ability to purchase and download games to their homes. Of course, in the world of business, a new means of distribution sometimes offers companies the ability to sneak in new charges, improving profits at the expense of the consumer.

Star Wars MMO Hints at Microtransaction-based Future

One characteristic that sets most Eastern-developed MMOs from their Western counterparts is the microtransaction-based model, which throws away monthly subscription fees and instead allows the players to pay for certain virtual items while enjoying the main game for free. But, as of late, many Western studios have shed the monthly reminder of reality, such as Sony Online Entertainment with their release of Station Cash, where players of Everquest may purchase a bevy of in-game items, and Electronic Art’s recent comments on the next Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic, hints at a future where players could be nickel and dime’d to death.
