We saw a lot of cool, not-so-cool, and even slightly disturbing things at E for All, and then we all came home and got sick. So maybe it wasn’t the greatest weekend ever, but we had fun, and it seems like a lot of you guys did, too. GotGame East took home 4th at the MLG WoW tournament; zigzag won the WoW dance-off with a very classy Macarena; Joey beat a five-year-old at Soul Calibur IV and then took his lunch money; Claudia received (stole) more GoW2 swag than any person will need, ever; and I finished a Braid full game speed run to beat my own best (pathetic) time. When not standing at the XBLA station for 40 minutes straight, we (Dom) took a mess of pictures. These are for those of you who didn’t attend and want to see what went down, and those who did and are wondering if your mad-picture-ruining-rampage went off as planned. Well, it didn’t, awesome giant bunny, but we still love you.

You can’t take it with you, but you can still purchase most of the items found at E for All after the fact. The real question is: do you want to? You already have enough Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick in Chocolate Chip flavor to last you ’til Doomsday. Just in case you need a change of pace, here’s a look at two of the only edible items at the expo (besides that 360 someone took a bite out of): Gamer Grub and Mana Energy Potion.

On the more technical side of E for All, Fusion-io featured their new ioXtreme that is headed straight for consumer markets. To promote it, their booth featured a bull riding exhibit, that was less bull and more hard drive. Shoes were flying as they were thrown off the “crashing hard drive.”
I had the wonderful opportunity to interview CTO, David Flynn. He explained what the ioXtreme is and how it is the future of computers.

One of the most prominently displayed and immediately visible aspects of E for All this year was the Into the Pixel gallery set up near the entrance of the expo. Organized and brought to the expo by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, Into the Pixel aims to offer video game artists the same recognition and higher art standing that traditional works are automatically afforded. Removed from immediate game notation and treated as such, it was easy to see why the AIAS, (and co-hosts ESA and PDC of LACMA), felt such an urge to promote these artists’ works. They are breathtaking, enthralling, and technically sound. It is in addition to their already impressive accomplishments as artists that they are also storytellers of video games. President of the AIAS, Joseph Olin, graciously sat down to chat about Into the Pixel and art in games with Joey and myself during the expo.

Pro gamers are usually respected for their elite skills, not necessarily their philanthropy. At this year’s E for All, legendary gamers TriForce, Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel, Justin Wong, Billy Mitchell, Todd Rogers and Kubuu joined forces to help raise food for the Los Angeles Food Bank. The Five Gamers offered a Nintendo Wii signed by all five of them, simply by donating a canned good, one raffle ticket per can. Just in case attendees weren’t rocking some Split Pea in their back pockets, event organizer, Triforce, thankfully provided an assortment of canned goods that could be purchased and donated.

I had a chance to check out the Indiecade exhibit today at E for All. Maybe you’re hip to the indie scene: you’ve mastered Mr. Robot and been through the bullet hell of Jets ‘n’ Guns. If you’re like most gamers, though, you’re only passingly familiar with independent gaming. Well, it’s alive and well, and if you are looking for more experimental gameplay experiences or just need something to pass the time before “First-Person Space Shooter #644: Now with More Bullets and Also You Turn Into a Werewolf for No Raisin,” I’ve got some recommendations from the show floor.

One of the many demos available to play at E for All this year was the anticipated Sacred 2. If you can’t stand to wait until Diablo III, but crave some slashin’ and some hackin’, this might be the way to get your fix. I noticed during character creation, that the game does not feature any character customization. Once you chose one of the 6 characters, it will be up to you to deck them out in proper gear to get them looking unique and hip.

When I first heard about TN Games’ 3rd Space Vest, which is designed to bring the gaming experience beyond virtual to physical reality, I was pretty terrified. So, a vest that punishes me every time I get shot in a FPS? Shooting pains when tanking in WoW? None for me, thanks. Luckily, TN Games is at E for All this year, and set my fears at ease with a demonstration and explanation, care of President and CEO, Dr. Mark Ombrellaro.
