Blizzard and Fans Team up to Support a Great Cause


Recently claiming to have 11.5 million subscriptions to World of Warcraft, Blizzard has achieved an almost indestructible position in the gaming industry. Yet, this past week has shown Blizzard’s more compassionate side. On December 28th, Blizzard teamed up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to offer their fans a chance to win a lifetime subscription to World of Warcraft, while supporting an end to cancer. E for All: Where the Elite Meet to Let Others Eat


Pro gamers are usually respected for their elite skills, not necessarily their philanthropy. At this year’s E for All, legendary gamers TriForce, Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel, Justin Wong, Billy Mitchell, Todd Rogers and Kubuu joined forces to help raise food for the Los Angeles Food Bank. The Five Gamers offered a Nintendo Wii signed by all five of them, simply by donating a canned good, one raffle ticket per can. Just in case attendees weren’t rocking some Split Pea in their back pockets, event organizer, Triforce, thankfully provided an assortment of canned goods that could be purchased and donated.

Video Games as Tools for Charity


With all the negative press video games get, it’s nice to hear a positive story every now and then. Unfortunately, the mainstream media doesn’t usually run stories on video games unless they’re tied to real world violence. One organization is fighting this negative association, though, by using video games as a tool for charity. Somebody call Jack Thompson, he might just crap himself.
