Headlines, MMORPGs, World of WarCraft
You’d think that prison inmates would warmly welcome ways to pass time behind bars that didn’t involve shoveling escape routes with spoons or lifting weights. It’s hard to believe, but I guess even porn and prison tattoos lose their appeal after a while, and eventually inmates turn to other means of entertainment. Strangely enough, however, one inmate is holding a grudge like nobody’s business against the world’s greatest time killer: World of Warcraft. I’d reckon that being an orc would probably be better than being your cellmate’s “bitch,” but maybe I’m mistaken.

Halo, MMORPGs, Playstation 3, World of WarCraft
We all know MMOs are extremely popular these days. Games like World of Warcraft and EverQuest are dominating the PC market, and causing thousands of gamers to be painfully attached to their computers. These games have enormous potential, yet traditionally, they tend to be exclusively available to the PC. But will that always be the case? What is the future of MMOs? Can we expect to see an increase in console MMOs?

Events, Starcraft
If you’re a Blizzard fan, chances are that you have been looking at Starcraft 2 for months and possibly years now. We’ve all been wondering: when’s the release date? Well, the release date still has not been announced, however, they did announce big news at BlizzCon: Starcraft 2 will be a trilogy. The three parts of the trilogy are: the Human campaign – “Wings of Liberty,” the Zerg campaign – “Heart of the Swarm,” and the Protoss campaign – “Legacy of the Void.” Now, everyone is probably thinking, “This is just Blizzard’s way of sucking more money from us.” That is simply not true, and here’s why:

Diablo
If you don’t know already, Diablo 3 is playable at BlizzCon this year. Everyone is probably dying to know about the new classes. Earlier this season, the Witch Doctor and Barbarian were announced as new classes. At BlizzCon, they also announced a third class, the Wizard. We’ll cover that more in a later article. I, however, had the pleasure of trying out the Witch Doctor first hand. Now you might be wondering, “Allen, you’re a tough, burly man, why didn’t you play the Barbarian?” Well, although that statement may be true, I am not that interested into just running into things and hitting really hard. Where’s the fun in that? I wanted to try the elegant class of Witch Doctor. I would have taken some sweet videos or taken some pictures, but Blizzard wouldn’t allow any of that.

Gamer Culture, World of WarCraft
Millions of players around the world have probably grown sick of grinding the same Burning Crusade content over and over, and therfore are anxiously awaiting the new World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. Don’t worry WoW lovers, even if you don’t have the scratch for the new expansion, Blizzard plans on introducing Lich King content prior to the expansion’s release with an upcoming patch.

Diablo, Game Design
Every once in a while, I become concerned for the gaming subculture. Sometimes, like Icarus, they fly too close to the sun, and I think we all know what happens. If you’re Icarus, you fall into the Aegean Sea; if you’re a gamer complaining about one of the most anticipated and decorated titles (and companies), you get ousted in an interview with Jay Wilson. So the real question has always been: as consumers, are we qualified to make commentary and sign petitions that will potentially change the content in a game? Jay Wilson did an interview with MTV on August 7th dispelling rumors about Diablo 3 and the hocus pocus of Photoshop.

MMORPGs, World of WarCraft
Next time you’re on YouTube, you might see some clips featuring the World of Warcraft Spirit Healer splashed over the Related section. Or a friend might tell you to listen more carefully to the ethereal whispers in the mist the next time you get killed while playing. The surprisingly popular theory: she’s beseeching you to play more WoW and give WoW more money.
