You really have to give it up for the evil genius that is GameStop.
Here’s a company that makes nearly half its profits reselling used games at a price 4 to 5 times higher than the amount paid to the gamers who pawned them. Add in the fact GameStop’s financial clout allows it buy out seriously threats and bulldoze the rest, and it’s easy to see why gamers have no choice but to accept “The Man” of video game retail as a necessary evil.

I’ll admit it: I’m a man whore when it comes to any game edition containing the words “limited,” “collector,” or “extended.” If you’re a geek, it goes with the territory. And it didn’t take long before game publishers caught on. There’s the Legendary Edition of Halo 3 complete with the Spartan Mjolnir Mark VI Helmet and the limited edition of Stranglehold that includes a Blu-ray version of “Hard Boiled.”
If that wasn’t enough, recently, Amazon snagged an exclusive deal to sell the “Fallout 3: Survival Edition,” which is a tier above the collector’s edition. What makes it so special? A replica of the Pip-Boy 3000 that’s about the size of an alarm clock. The asking price: $129.99.

For the past few years, Amazon has allowed people to purchase and download software directly from their website. Even so, it’s gone widely unnoticed as the only software they’ve been doing this with is TurboTax, though they do offer a similar service for other forms of entertainment, such as ebooks, movies and music. Now it appears they’re looking to expand further, based on a job posting on Gamasutra, which states that they’re looking for a Software Development Engineer, specifically to build the foundation for a game distribution system.
