Starcraft 2 Campaign Demo
Lovers of Starcraft be prepared for a campaign treat. We all love watching those Korean pro Starcraft players on YouTube, but we all remember playing the campaign at some point in our lives. The Starcraft 2 campaign is an extremely different experience than it’s 11 year old predecessor.
The units, of course, are significantly different between the skirmishes and campaign. For one, our beloved firebats and medics are no where to be found in skirmishes!
The campaign starts off with Jim Raynor in the brig of his stolen cruiser of a Arcturus Mengsk. here are two demo-able campaigns. 1 is an escort mission against the Zerg, and the other is an invasion of a Protoss base whilst they fend off Zerg attacks. The latter has an appearance by the infamous Kerrigan.
I will first go into greater detail of the explorable content of the cruiser. Through each campaign you ear credits that can be spent throughout the ship.
- Armory: The locations where you can upload schematics for particular units. Upgrades for units and building can be purchased here. A great example is the bunkers. (NOTE: they are paper-thin compared to the original StarCraft bunkers) In the Armory, you may upgrade unmanned turrets to be built on top, increase capacity, or increase defense.
- Lab: A young scientist name Stephen will be available to greet Jim. Throughout your missions if you harvest Zerg eggs or Protoss artifacts he can study them, and eventually unlock racial advantages against them. I thought this was pretty nifty, and added a deeper another level of goals in the game.
- Cantina: In the Bar of the ship, Mr.Hill is Jim’s old Merc friend who is there to hook him up with and Elite Mercenaries to help on his mission. There are numerous other NPC’s who are fun to click on, reminiscent of the good old Warcraft and Starcraft games. I would also like to know that in the upper left corner of the bar there is a holographic lap-dance visible. I can’t help but notice that it is a Night Elf female /dancing.
Campaign Units:
Previously I mentioned Firebat, Medic, and upgraded bunkers. The Perdition Turret was one that I also felt worth mentioning. Unlike its anti-air only brother the normal turret, the Perdition Turret is a flame throwing anti-ground turret. Long have I wishes for the Terrans to finally have a defensive building that can be unmanned. That day has come!
We can all expect more campaign exclusive games in the future. Should be wonderful.
