Spore Brings Out the Pervert in Gamers

The Creature Creator for Will Wright’s much-anticipated Spore was released on June 16th, much to the delight of gamers whose collective reaction to the creative freedom was to develop monstrously-endowed wang beasts en masse. So here we are, not even a month later, and there are literally thousands of monsters with malformed penises gracing the Spore community. Congratulations, fellow gamers – you’ve set our demographic back about fifty years thanks to your childish obsession with the male anatomy.
Unsurprisingly, some phallus fans have recently taken their vulgar visions one step further, providing troll-on-troll fetishists with what can only be described as Spore porn. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like: two Spore creatures going at it with reckless abandon. At least they both look happy, right? Well, your boss might not be if he sees you checking it out, so click at your own risk.
What does this deluge of depraved designs spell for the Spore community and gaming fans in general? Well, it may not shock you to learn that EA, publisher of Spore and the Creature Creator, is keeping an eye on fan’s creations with somewhat mixed results, recently banning a creature that is clearly not a penis. Clearly, EA has their hands full (pun intended) of penis monsters, yet aren’t quite sure what to do with them (pun also intended).

While it’s easy to look at all the harm Spore could unleash, especially in the U.S.—where the human reproductive organs are more vilified than violence—it’s important to look at the other side of the coin. Spore can teach us that we all come in various shapes and sizes, and that these differences should be celebrated.
