School Using Games to Teach Opens in Fall
I remember looking over a list of classes to choose from to finish my high school curriculum with. My eyes stopped at “typing class.” Seriously? That was when I started to wonder if the teachers running the school even knew what kids were doing in their spare time. I mean, we got something called Cyber-bullying these days! Luckily for kids though, Quest to Learn, a school in New York that will open in Fall of 2009, will be providing a curriculum for all those savvy, digital kids.
Don’t mind my red face. That’s just jealously.
Seeing the “collaborative and creative capacities of young people who are eager to learn and participate” outside of school (must have been watching Youtube), Quest to Learn “supports a dynamic curriculum that uses the underlying design principles of games to create highly immersive, game-like learning experiences for students. Games and other forms of digital media also model the complexity and promise of systems.” The school will be open to 6th-12th grade.
Using games to learn isn’t new, but using it at such a large capacity is. I can’t help but wonder what all this will lead to. Think about their eye-coordination! We’ll soon be having ace pilots and quick-shot soldiers…
Wait a second. Is this all a government plan to create super soldiers!?!? Because if you read our reasons why Gamers will rule the world, you can see why this is plausible.
Anyways, I’m sure you’ve heard about the people who thought we would be living on the moon by now. Well, by the year 2100, I think we’ll be run over by sentient computers because we’ve put our whole lives, even education, on technology.

Have we learned nothing? Nothing?!
Have a good night.
