A Left 4 Dead Movie
With each chapter of Left 4 Dead being its own story with a cinematic gameplay style, if there was ever a game that needed to be made into a movie, it’s this one. However, without a good director, writer, and cast the Left 4 Dead movie would fall victim to the same fate as most other game to movie transitions. So let’s look at who should take on the task of turning the Death Toll campaign into a movie.
First off, why Death Toll out of all the campaigns? While each of the four has what it takes to be a movie, Death Toll has some of the best moments in the entire game. With the rescue team actually being a husband and wife instead of some hotshot pilot or someone in the military, it makes things seem more about the actual survivors of the disaster rather than just being saved. Moreover, who wouldn’t like to see the Church Guy finally get his just deserts on the silver screen?
Co-Directors - George A. Romero and Quentin Tarantino:
When it comes to zombies, you will be hard-pressed to find someone better than George A. Romero, with five “Dead” movies and a sixth in the works, it would be almost wrong to not include the master of brain eating in the creation of Death Toll. With the inclusion of Co-Director Quentin Tarantino to add that certain cinematic flair and style that captures horror in such a dramatic yet humorous light. With these two at the helm of the project, there’s no way it could fail…unless the writing is bad, which brings us to the brains behind the project, no pun intended.
Writers - Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, James Gunn:
Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, creators of the Shaun of the Dead movie, along with James Gunn, writer for the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake and 2006’s horror-comedy Slither, would be more than capable of capturing the subtle yet prevalent humor and thrilling setting. With Wright and Pegg’s unique style of humor mixed with Gunn’s ability to keep a morbid and disturbing tone and still have the ability to add in witty one-liners, there is no doubt this group would be able to stay true to the source material.
Cast:
Will Smith as Louis. Alright, you should have seen this one coming, but seriously, who else could do the smooth-talking ex-Junior Systems Analyst better than Mr. Smith? With his previous experience saving the world from aliens (three times), fighting off a hoard of killer robots, and evil zombie wannabes, it would be doing the movie a disservice to not include him.
Sean Connery as Bill. There is a list of perfect candidates for the role of Bill, but Sean Connery is perhaps one of the best choices for the character. Like Will Smith, Connery is no stranger to action movies; in fact that’s pretty much what he is known best for. Having the perfect attitude and look, Connery would need little to no time to prepare for this role. Hearing Sean Connery say such classic lines as “Close your mouth and open your eyes, Francis. You’ll aim better.” will make the movie that much more satisfying.
Bill Goldberg as Francis. A curveball has been thrown in the casting! Though ex-wrestler Bill Goldberg doesn’t have the reputation of some of the other cast members, he has the look, the demeanor, and the overall “bad-ass” attitude that suits Francis perfectly. Considering how ripped Goldberg is, I doubt anyone would argue with him having a role in the movie, unless they want to be ripped in half like a phonebook.
Sonja Kinski as Zoey. The most obvious of the cast members, and I’m sure everyone knows why. Sure, she’s only been in one movie, an indie film by the name of All God’s Children Can Dance, but how can you go wrong with the person whom the character’s model was based on! Gamers all over the world would be disappointed if Ms. Kinski didn’t get the role of one of the best female game characters to date.
Quentin Tarantino as the Church Guy. The man is in almost every one of his own movies, so it would be easy to assume he would be in this one and I don’t think he’d much appreciate being just a zombie. This is why the role of the “Church Guy” is perfect for Tarantino. Hey, he was already turned into a Vampire in From Dusk Til Dawn; why not try being a zombie this time around?

Ok i can see why you would choose Will Smite as Louise, but i don’t think he could pull it off like some if the other comment here i say Dave chapelle would be better, Bill don’t really know, Francis no i really think that the ex-wrestler would not fithim, but he can be the Tank, and for Zoey Ellen Paige, she looks kinda like her and Zoey is a collage girl who got into horror movies Ellen played a teenage girl who was pregnant that was in love with horror movies, really just take away the baby and you can easily make a comparison, one more thing NO MEGAN FOX CAN NOT PLAY ZOEY remember this is Left 4 Dead NOT Transformers

I have had dreams of this movie being made, and i think that you have the perfect Co-Directors and Writers (me being a fan of Shawn of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Grindhouse). I’m alittle afraid that if Quentin Tarantino were to join the team, that he would bring in some Idiotic-Funny things, instead of just plain funny things (as he did in Grindhouse). The cast i’m alittle tensed about, as i absolutely LOVE Will Smith, i don’t think he’s exactly right for the roll of Louis, i have seen actors that look soo much more like Louis..as for Zoey, i’m all for Sonja, but can she really act? Again i’m a fan of Sean Connery, but i believe his voice isnt husky and rough as Bill’s is. I don’t know much about Bill Goldberg, but from his pictures, i think he’s alittle too muscular for Francis. And YES QUENTIN TARANTINO HAS TO BE THE CHURCH GUY!! haha! Srry if the things i said offended you, but i have a strong opinion on who the characters should be. But other than that FANTASTIC! <3
1. Sean Connery’s retired, so he won’t be coming back, period.
2. Will Smith is the most expensive actor in Hollywood. Go with Dule Hill.
3. Goldberg is a “let’s try” response from me, as I think the bad press would hurt the film, but he’s quite possibly the perfect physical fit for the role.

Sean Connery is too old for bill. I’d say Bruce Willis. He can pull off the voice pretty well, and he looks like he can pull it off with the beard. Plus, he’s close to the right age (he’s 54, my guess is Bill is around 60)

Will Smith would be a good Louis for sure. As for Francis, I’d say Bruce Willis would fit that role pretty well rather than being Bill. Vin Diesel would play a good Francis too. Sonja as Zoey is obvious, although I would like to see if Jessica Alba can take on a role like that. Bill IMO should be played by Chuck Norris. C’mon! Who else could lay out zombie ass faster than Chuck? Sean Connery would still suit Bill though. Maybe even Robert Downey Jr. if they dyed his facial hair grey.
Bill should be played by Clint Eastwood lol, just give him a beard and such. Clint Eastwood would be undeniably awesome as Bill.
Everyone else’s cast and position is very good.
As for what campaign, I definately say No Mercy. Its a bigger area and there is so much more you can do with it since it is a city, and we dont always have to follow the game, adding your own idea can be a good thing. Or perhaps combining some things, like there can be a church in the city and they come across that church instead of one in the middle of nowhere, idk just a thought.
Me and my friends are making a Left 4 Dead movie for our school’s film festival, we are excited with how it will turn out. Everything is turning out nice.
I completely agree with what you have written here. All I could say different is what if instead of it being based off one campaign what if there were many campaigns mixed together (in ways that they would fit.)
If only they would make a movie with all these aspects I am sure that it would be a huge hit.
Not only to the Video game fans but the basic consumers looking for a good action horror. It has a great potential to do great, now all we have to do it pitch it to the big shots. XD

Death Toll is good but No Mercy would be much better because of the playgound and the city buildings where you can adjust very cool special effects!!

As for the videogame, this movie would add a lot of promotion! Not only the film will have profit, but the game too.

i totally agree with all of the charectors, (the ones that were pictured at top of page) - i am not sure if i am right about this but i think its Clint Eastwood who plays in Gran Torino right? if it is he would be the perfect charecter, even if the looks arnt perfect, hes a natural, fits the attitude of Bill perfectly, and didnt he play in the movie Partriot Games? (book by Tom Clancy) that movie is really good, and i think he played Jack Ryan in that movie, and it was totaly bad ass, he would fit Bill the best i think, i will tell my friend about this blog, hes a major L4D buff, umm, other than that i totaly agree with the charectors, and while Will Smith doesnt look exactly like Louis, he can certainly pull if off, if you have not seen ,I AM LEGEND, you should, he already has experience with it and is the perfect part, Goldberg is just perfect for the Francis part too, all in all, i totaly agree they should make a L4D movie with the charectors, and have Clint Eastwood as Bill though, love the game

Pretty cool ideas…If it ever does happen though, I would like it to be blood harvest. The woods and the farhmhouse at the end would be killer.

I dunno i would love for this movie to be made. . . but it would be really weird not hearing the same voices. The only actors I really like for being in this movie would be Will Smith, but again Louis is sorta like a nerdy thin kinda guy not like will smith. And Goldberg. . . well Francis is an overweight person in the game and isn’t super buff i see the resemblance but I don’t think it would work that great . . .

Dude, no offense, but be realistic. We’re talking about a videogame based movie. You just set out the most high-budget set of people possible, sure maybe you picked the perfect people, but there is such a thing as too perfect! Don’t get me wrong, they could probably pull off the funding with their sales, but not without spending at least 3/4 of it! Besides that, Mr. Romero usually brings his own original touch, even to his remakes, so as awesome as the movie would turn out, it would not be the left 4 dead we all know and love! Above all, you really just picked the most obvious people thinkable, you watch only high budget movies for these kind of guys, and they are usually the main character, but to try and have nine people famous in very separate ways all act together with a videogame to movie budget, you’re dreaming a puddle into an ocean sorry man, but this all couldn’t, wouldn’t, and probably shouldn’t happen.
I don’t think they should make the movie based on the campaigns of the game. Instead they should start three weeks prior to the start of the first campaign (No Mercy, first week to get to know the characters lifestyles, and then build up around the first infected to the finally when they reach safety or die). I also believe the movie would benefit if it didn’t really touch much of the game, for instance, the main characters shouldn’t be Louis, Zoey, Bill and Francis. Instead a new set of characters, maybe even have a few cameos, of the orginal characters (see Zoey at her college, bum into Louis on the street or something along those lines). Regardless if they make this into a movie, I just hope they don’t mess with the game storyline, but stay within that atmostphere of survivors trying to make it to safety after. I just really hate to see another Game to movie, where they destroy it like Bloodrayne, Doom, Tombraider, etc..
I think that a younger Teen girl Zoey is a little better so as to Sonja I think she needs a little less of age( not that shes a bad actress) but I think Rose Mcgowan could do it or Natalie Imbruglia or maybe Haylie Duff
And Bill well there’s Pierce Brosnan, ^Sean Connery^ as for Francis, Clive Owen or Hugh Jackman and Luis, Well Will can do it but there’s also Eddie Murphy, and why not put Muscle on the Tank like Arnold Swarzzenegger, and the Witch, why not Lindsay Lohan.

Let’s think outside the box. How about ving rhames or chuck liddell as Francis. Dave chappell or Nick Cannon as Louis. Zoey should be a new break out actress or Anna Paquin. Bill could be played by Bruce Willis but it could be played by Tim Roth or Kurt Russell.

George A Romeo will bring up that fucked up satisfaction of the world being torn up by zombies while Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and James Gunn will manadge to find that perfect balance between real comedy and horror.
But get rid of Tarantino, I hate the guy.
And I love Will Smith and all, but I just don’t think he’s right for the part. It just doesn’t feel right.
