PETA Enjoys Gaming, Plans for More Games
Apparently, creating just a few games was not enough for PETA, who now plan to create more games to advertise their message to the public. Specifically, it looks like PETA is targeting the vast gaming culture in their next campaigns. In an article published by Gamesindusty.biz, PETA discussed their purpose of using a Cooking Mama clone.
The organization previously notified Sega of their use of chimps in the Samba de Amigo television ads. Sega, in response, removed the ads and received praise from the group. With the response that PETA gained from Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals, it showed that people were willing to see what PETA created. Now with more games to be released, it is intriguing what else PETA could see as another affront to animals in video game form.
Since PETA realizes “that the gaming audience was much bigger and more diverse than we had initially thought,” it is nice that one group recognizes the global impact that gamers can have in the world market, other than in the pockets of developers, publishers, and retailers. PETA also took credit for creating free marketing for Majesco’s release.
PETA’s plan to continue to create games has two possible outcomes. They will, in fact, educate gamers on the conditions that animals are living in and create a global response that result in a large shift to vegetarians. Or, alternatively, gamers will see these games as humorous diversions in the middle of the day before heading back to their respective consoles to play something else. My giant turkey leg and I are leaning toward the latter.
