PC Gaming Alliance: Pros & Cons

pcga

Last month at GDC, several of the the global leaders of the gaming world, announced that they had formed the PC Gaming Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to advancing the PC as the gaming platform of choice. Almost all of the members of the PCGA are gaming industry titans: Microsoft, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Epic Games and so forth.

The PCGA is the first and only organization dedicated to the PC gaming industry and intends to focus on coordinating marketing and the promotion of PC gaming, as well as providing a unified and accurate voice reporting on the industry to help cut down on consumer and developer confusion.

Everything from streamlining and simplifying hardware specifications for PC games to working against piracy and cheating to ensuring security for matchplay, the PCGA is hitting industry problems from all angles. “This collaboration will provide developers and publishers with a champion for consistent demographics, hardware adoption, and revenue measurement and reporting,” according to David Cole, an analyst with DFC Intelligence. “An authoritative source of information on the PC as a gaming platform will serve as an invaluable catalyst for growing the market and improving the consumers’ PC gaming experience.”
