Zero Punctuation…One Year of Bollocks!

Pop idols have Simon Cowell. Chefs have Gordon Ramsay. Parents have the old crones from Nanny 911. The hottest trend in entertainment is watching British know-it-alls verbally assault poor saps whose only crime is to dare to live out their dreams, if not just get by. For the video game industry, Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation fills that void. The series has grown to such popularity that many online publications simply embed the videos into their news posts in order to boost traffic by riding its coat tails, and making up for their own lack of original content. This article may not be much different.

Nintendo Staggers in the Right Direction

Nintendo continues its trend of being the craziest game company out there with its leap into online communication. Other companies played it safe by handing out the tried-and-true headsets to their hoards of online participants, but Nintendo took its time. When your products are printing money, what’s the rush?

TF2 Players Beware: Spy Crab Alert

Recently, there was a discovery of a new species of crabs found in Team Fortress 2 called the ’spy crab.’ A video captures the species in the wild with the user name “Rare Endangered Spy Crab.” This phenomenon is a glitch found in TF2, and to execute this move, you choose the Spy class, equip the disguise kit, then look up and crouch.

Reading, wRiting and fRaging: Gaming at your local library

I remember being in my elementary school library trying to study with the distracting and ever-present threat of losing an axle in Oregon Trail. Those even less ambitious would spend the hour hunting the “Trail“, coming home with no more than twelve pounds of gopher meat and a B-minus. The true academics would forever ask the question, “Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?” I don’t know about you, but I never did figure out where the hell she was; fortunately, today’s kids have a slew of new ways to not learn.

Wall-E: Good Movie, Bad Game

Ohh, Wall-E. A sad movie if there ever was one, but at least it was very good. Coincidentally, Wall-E the game is also sad—but for totally different reasons. It’s another bad game based on a good movie. Who’d of thunk it?

Unfortunately (or fortunately), I was unable to finish it. As soon as I was forced to destroy trash in space as Eve, I quit. Before that section, I had to fly through a timed gauntlet of rings (yes, one of those). The only thing is: there was no way to tell where the next ring was going to be, and I had to guess. That’s right, guess. There are some things about this game that just make you go, “Huh?”

Is Brain Age as smart as it claims?

We’ve all heard the criticism that video games are for dullards with lax brain muscles. That playing video games will turn your brain into a fine mixture of cerebellum and mashed potatoes, a combination served at the high society of zombie Thanksgiving. But there is a game out there that is trying to change our brainless stereotype and, in the process, keep the brain hardy and healthy, not to mention delicious.

Can the UFC bring the fight to the virtual world?

With the rising popularity of the UFC, it was almost inevitable that a game would eventually spawn from the blood and sweat of the octagon. UFC: Undisputed promises to utilize gorgeous gameplay and enhanced physics to produce the greatest amount of realism that video games offer today. Submissions and knockouts aside, most gamers realize that no matter how hard a company tries, these games fail to live up to their namesake and fall face first to the mat. Can THQ deliver the knockout and create the next legendary sports series?
