NVISION 08: Girl Gamers Changing the World- PMS Style!
Girl gamers are taking names! We are stronger than ever before! This is all thanks to great people like Amber and Amy Dalton of the PMS Clan: Pandora’s Mighty Soldiers.
At NVISION, we had the fortunate opportunity to interview Amber Dalton, co-founder of PMS. A few years ago, she and her sister, Amy, discovered their love for the original Halo. This love started a community, and that community has grown into a massive collaboration of 640 girls gaming and fragging worldwide. They play all platforms competitively. PMS promotes positive, competitive attitudes not just for girls, but all gamers. Their proud supporters, and brother clan, is H20, the all-male counterpart.
I was thoroughly impressed to find PMS is run with business-level organization. There are divisions with various officers which ensure it functions like a well-oiled machine. The Dalton sisters and their officers have combined their passion for gaming and their desire to help the community, and have become a force to be reckoned with. PMS is fueled by passionate individuals who embody the PMS values.
Amber wants to show the world that girls are not the less able, but merely the under-represented gamer. Girls are just as capable kicking butt and taking names as any guy gamer. Guys just have a greater pool of gamers and thus a larger opportunity to cultivate the elite. Girls need to break out of their comfort zone and jump into the deep end. Only then can their true potential be realized. The world needs to know that girls are just as gaming-gifted as the guys!
I believe we are all fully aware that in both competitive and casual gaming, it is not hard to find players who are offensive and simply not pleasant to game with. Of course, there is nothing more delicious, and justified, than head-shotting their slanderous mouths. Many girls will just mute, to save themselves the anxiety. But Amber clued us in to the PMS 18-page manual which is provided in order to deal with such common events. She feels that instead of ignoring them, you should try to earn their respect. There are strategies to calling them out, and hopefully changing their ways.
PMS is changing the way gamers play, and is helping the world in more ways than one. These lovely gamers sponsored numerous raffles at NVISION and even a provided an Alienware BEAST of a machine as one of the prizes. They were raising money for Child’s Play Charity and did a wonderful job of doing so. Every dollar raised was matched by NVIDIA. PMS raised a total of $6000. Kudos to PMS for their dedication and hard work throughout the entirety of NVISION!
