First Warhammer Online “Live Expansion” Announced

Mythic announced today its first plans to expand its PvP-centric MMO, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Those of you who are familiar with expansion packs may already be setting aside your $20; however, WAR’s first expansion, Call to Arms, is going to be rolled out for free as a series of live events over the coming months. The content of the expansion is going to consist of three in-game live events, a new RvR scenario, the introduction of a new dungeon zone called Land of the Dead, and two new career paths: the Orc Choppa and the Dwarf Slayer. EA Titles Available For Download On Steam!

With Valve’s online game distribution system getting more popular and EA having joined up with them back in 2005, it is about time that some of EA’s titles made it onto Steam! Games like Spore, Warhammer Online, and Mass Effect are now available for download via Steam. More titles like Dead Space, Mirror’s Edge, and Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 will be added next month. It’s beginning to look like Steam will soon become the envy of all other forms of downloadable PC games in the future with EA finally backing them up in this department. However, for those of you outside of the United States prepare to be disappointed as the only fully confirmed availability for this service is if you live in North America and there is no indication of whether this service will become available outside of the U.S. just yet.

WoW vs. WAR: Fall Battle Between Two MMO Juggernauts

It’s no secret that these two gigantic MMOs–World of Warcraft and Warhammer: Age of Reckoning–will produce a war greater than any previously witnessed on the gaming battlefield. In the unforgiving world of MMO dominance, WoW sits on top, undaunted. For the past few years, we have been teased and tickled with Warhammer: Age of Reckoning and its release dates. Now, we’re closer than ever to the release of WAR and EA/Mythic should be deeply concerned. Blizzard will let none survive in its quest for MMO glory, and have literally pulled a fast one in order to maintain their dominance.

Blame Game: The Blood Bowl Generational Debate

Mutant League Football
When Warhammer Online was first announced, the game aroused resentment among many younger gamers, as it resembled World of Warcraft in many of its aesthetic features — even after those arguments were quashed by older gamers, who pointed out that the tabletop game by Games Workshop has been around for a quarter of a century. Now, another Games Workshop tabletop game is getting the digital treatment. And it’s no surprise that the same allegations are starting to surface once again.
