Starcraft 2 Campaign Demo

sc2_logo_small_rgbLovers of Starcraft be prepared for a campaign treat.  We all love watching those Korean pro Starcraft players on YouTube, but we all remember playing the campaign at some point in our lives.  The Starcraft 2 campaign is an extremely different experience than it’s 11 year old predecessor.

The units, of course, are significantly different between the skirmishes and campaign.  For one, our beloved firebats and medics are no where to be found in skirmishes!

Gaming Popularization Due to Internet Revolution

Atari GotGameGaming has been around for over 30 years. So, why is it that it has only recently become popular in mainstream culture?

Household gaming began in the 1970s with the release of the Atari 2600. It sold quite well, but despite this, gamers were a relatively new and misunderstood subculture that was often ridiculed as “nerdy.”

The Top 5 Amendments to Pro Gaming

Star LeaguePro gaming, and the mediums which cover it, are relatively large nowadays. You have the World Cyber Games, or even the Electronic Sports League dominating most of the world’s pro gaming hype. There’s even some very prominent amateur leagues like CAL. Yet with all things, there is room for improvement.

RTS Fans Rejoice!: World in Conflict ESL Tournament Starting in March

Some RTS fans might remember World in Conflict passing through their radar in 2007, or news regarding its delayed (though now soon to be released) expansion pack, World in Conflict: Soviet Assualt. Despite some of the larger RTS release titles hogging the main stage that year, like Command and Conquer 3, WIC received some fabulous reviews, awards, and has maintained a loyal fan base ever since. Announced on Thursday, ESL (Electronic Sports League) will be hosting a World Championship tournament for WIC — getting fans ready for the expansion’s supposed release date in March. Read More »

No Character Is An Island: Marooned With An All-Star Cast

Apparently, there are people out there willing to judge my net worth as a person based upon which five CDs I would bring with me if I got stranded on a desert island. Or which five pop-stars I’d bring along for company. Or pretty much any arbitrary list of five items I’d want in tow if I found myself marooned at one of the far corners of the world…

Because I’d rather be judged on the merits of my favorite hobby than on those of my music collection (Weird Al is still culturally relevant, right?), here’s a list of the five video game characters I’d want around should our helicopter do a nosedive into some uncharted island.

The Top Five Ways Real-Time-Strategy Games Improve Your Life

Often, the more serious gamer finds their niche and proceeds to pwn. Some have a natural set of 1337 skills for FPS, others enjoy intense fighting games, or thrive in the splendid solitude of the MMO. Whatever it may be, the results of their efforts influence and define their character. With the RTS genre, it’s hard to find many negative traits amongst its followers, except for maybe a higher-than-usual competitive spirit. In fact, RTS games actually improve quality of life, imbuing fans with these championed virtues and skills:

Top 5 Game Girls That Could Kick My Ass

So, I’m going to level with you folks today. I’m 6’ tall and around 250 pounds depending on what shoes I’m wearing. During the course of my life, I’ve been referred to as stout, husky, girthy, and even voluptuous on more than one occasion. I walk down back alleys with relative aplomb knowing that not many people want to tangle with a large bearded man, glasses or no glasses. All of that aside, there is an inordinate amount of kickass females in the world of gaming that make me quiver in my boots.

Read that statement again. If this was real life, I’d pretty much already be emasculated and ashamed, assuming I wasn’t talking about the local college’s female rugby team. Read More »
