Halloween is a time of year when gamer imaginations can run rampant. How could a fan turn down an opportunity for cosplay outside of a con without those nasty judgmental snickers from the outside world? Truly, Halloween is the ideal holiday for gamers to be their dorkiest, but it can also be the most dangerous if their fashion sense is askew. Thus, I bring to you a list of game-related costumes that you should not attempt under any circumstances:

On October 14th I turned 28 years old, and you can just guess how many times friends, family, coworkers, and even complete strangers said, “28… it’s almost 30!” I seriously felt like I should’ve had black balloons and candles on my cake. But, being an oversized child, I felt largely at odds with all the age jokes. I daydream for god-knows-how-long everyday. I even play games like/with my nephew. So, since I’m all old now, does that mean I’ll have to stop playing games for fun? Do I need to put down the controller and switch to pinochle and shuffleboard on a cruise ship?

Japan has been known as a leader in several areas of technology, especially in the video game industry. But Western game developers are showing an increased level of success, enough to make Yoichi Wada, head of Square Enix, worry about the future of the Japanese video game industry. Calling for an alliance between Japanese game companies at the Tokyo Game Show, could Wada be looking to protect his country and its industry, or is it just plain greed?
I’m shocked that any of Japan’s game developers, especially Square Enix, see Western game developers as competition to worry about. I suppose as the world economy becomes more globalized, Japan may indeed have something to worry about. Now, I don’t know Yoichi Wada personally, but the facts have me pondering whether his motives are the concern of his country and its industry or for his own personal gain.

As of this writing, there have been four reported drownings at Nintendo HQ. Not from the usual suspect (water), but from people trying to swim through the massive pools of money they have in storage. It isn’t their fault that people keep buying their console, but you would think Nintendo would slow down, even for just a minute or so, and take time to count the money and find those missing bodies. Slowing down and taking time to think of brand new ideas and new intellectual properties isn’t on Nintendo’s agenda, either, and their recently announced line of Play on Wii series is evidence.

Okay, like Ken Levine says, “We’re all a giant bunch of f’ing nerds,” right? Right. You know we all say that we go out and pick up the ladies on gaming forums and WoW community sites. But if we ever were actually caught saying that in person, we’d look like McLovin, “chickie-wut-wut!” Truth is, we don’t even really want to do that. Clubs and bars are fine and all, but we just wanna drink, have a good time with our buddies, and play games while doing both, right? Right. So what games are best to play drunk?

So you arrive at college and find a game in your dorm room…that’s not yours?! Chances are, your roommate is a gamer. Before you strike up the choir and rejoice, you should consider your own gaming habits and be prepared to deal with someone with similar tendencies. Of course, their habits could be less, or in my experience, more extreme than your own.

Sometimes, the soundtrack to a game just won’t cut it. You’re in the middle of an intense gaming session, and the weak background music isn’t enough to fuel your fire. This is the time to mute your TV and crank up the stereo; it’s what you need to get you past that last level. But what are you listening to?

Wii, Suda 51, and No More Heroes fans, rejoice! During this year’s Tokyo Game Show, a sequel to the saber-slashing, blood-gushing, assassin-slaying hit was revealed.
