When it releases, Six Days in Fallujah will be one of the most controversial games ever made. Dealing with the War in Iraq, its immediacy is unprecedented, and with it, Atomic Games can single-handedly change our expectations for video games.
The animated documentary Waltz with Bashir parallels Six Days in lots of ways. With any luck, Six Days will treat its subject matter as seriously as Waltz, because in order to be justified, it has to become more than just a video game. It has to paint the reality of war, not glorify it the way so many games do.

It’s easy to see why video games use WWII so often. It’s the most devastating war in human history, and its sheer scale — spreading across every continent and involving most of the world’s nations — lends itself well to countless FPS’s and RTS’s.
But this year’s Fourth of July, why not reflect on the American Revolution instead? After all, it has plenty of high-stakes scenarios perfect for a video game and offers a much-needed escape from familiar battlegrounds of the 1940’s.

My meeting with SouthPeak Games was with two of their titles, Raven Squad and Section 8.
Both games were in good form, and since I saw Section 8 at GDC, I was interested in seeing where the title had progressed since then.

Several questions have dominated the history of man…
What is the meaning of life? is there a God? Did OJ really do it? Well, I don’t know, I don’t know, and *reaches for glass of water* next question please!
However, there is one question of equally enormous value to society (I promise) that I would like to explore, which would be, “Why we do we play games?”

The video leaves plenty of dead Nazi scum in its wake but let’s take a deeper look and see what the meat and bones of this cinematic reveals.

Game narratives have always been a sticking point for many gamers. The emotional connection gamers achieve with titles is important with the overall success. Though for some genres, the story has not been as important as the gameplay. While I enjoy playing as the main character or the amnesiac or squad member, is it time for gamers to live the life of the not-so-important secondary character?

At 4:30 PM I walked into the W hotel to get a look at America’s Army 3, the newest title for the America’s Army series. I’ll be honest, it’s not a series I had much interest in; but now I cannot wait for it to be released. I played the original America’s Army a little a long time ago, when my PC setup was more capable of processing graphical content and it was interesting. Now with the third title in the series, it looks like things have changed a lot.

I had a meeting with TimeGate Studios for an impression on their new original IP Section 8. While it was an early build, it’s easy to see where TimeGate is heading with their title. Section 8 is a sci-fi first person shooter and it heading into a different direction than other FPS titles.
