Mirror’s Edge PC Requirements Not Too Demanding
A recent post by Mirror’s Edge designers announced that the requirements to run the program on a PC are not too taxing.
Mirror’s Edge, a first-person, parkour-inspired adventure game has received many mixed reviews. One complaint: High system requirements. For the PC, it seems, this is not the case.
• Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP SP2/Vista
• Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz or 100% compatible equivalent
• Memory: 1GB RAM
• Video Card: 256MB memory with Shader Model 3.0
• HDD Space: 8GB
• DVD Drive: 1x DVD Drive
• Soundcard: Soundcard with DirectX 9.0c compatibility
• DirectX: DirectX 9.0c
• Network: An online connection is required for access to Leaderboards.
According to the game’s forum, the PC release has some expected differences from the console version. These differences, it appears, are for the better. GameSpot reports improved graphics with higher display and texture resolutions, as well as enhanced physical effects.
Though the game can run without the physical effects turned on, PhysX includes additions that promote a more realistic gameplay experience. The requirements to run PhysX are as follows:
• A PC running the most recent service pack of Windows XP Home, Pro, or Media Center Edition or Windows Vista
• A minimum of 512 MB of system memory
• A Vacant PCI expansion slot
• At least 50 MB of free hard disk space
• A 4-pin molex power connector (most systems have one available, but a Y-adaptor can also be used.)
You can view a video illustrating the difference between PhysX and non-PhysX gameplay here.
GameSpot has also reported that the PC version of Mirror’s Edge would be their first choice in gameplay. Mirror’s Edge is expected to be released for PC in January 2009.
