LEGO Video Games That Could Have You ‘Laying’ Bricks?
Who would have thought that video games about Legos would be so successful? Well, it doesn’t hurt that they rode the coattails of popular franchises. Lately, it seems that any franchise to become Lego-ized is made into a game. Could LEGO even look to video games themselves as a source for LEGO video games? I certainly hope not, but if they did…

Dr. Manhattan looks cool in Lego form, but there probably won't be a Lego Watchmen.
Now, if LEGO made deals to Lego-ize video game franchises, the future I see is both blocky and disheartening. This would mean some of the video game world’s toughest and most admired characters could be made more…ugh…kid-friendly, and that fall from “M” all the way down to “E” won’t do anyone any good.
LEGO would likely seek out games known for their iconic characters that also have plenty of things to build out of Legos. While Grand Theft Auto LEGO-City is highly unlikely, games like Tomb Raider, God of War, and Halo could be made into LEGO games. I’ll admit that Lara Croft, Kratos, and Master Chief might look kind of cool in Lego form, but as a gamer I’d be against these games. In all honesty, it would feel more like an insult rather than the sincerest form of flattery. But an artist who goes by the handle Saber-Scorpion does offer some really awesome pictures of what some of these would/might look like.

Some Lego-ized video games don’t sound all that bad. Mario might be fun in Lego form and as a LEGO game, and would probably be one of the first likely to be made. Even a LEGO version of Fable might be interesting. I’m kind of on the fence about a Lego Zelda or a Lego Final Fantasy game, though actual LEGO sets might be cool.
Frankly, I think LEGO should look inward and make games based on their own franchises. After a trip down to the local Toys “R” Us, I found a few sets that looked cool. LEGO Agents looks like a cool set, featuring spies, cars with missiles, and a guy with robot spider-legs. LEGO Exo-Force is a set I wish had been around when I was a kid, and I had to fight the urge to buy it for current-day fun. I think LEGO Racers combined with LEGO Speed Racer could also be an interesting racing game. LEGO also doesn’t show any signs of running out of gimmicks or funny sounding words, so there’s always the Bionicle series.
If LEGO does stay away from video game franchises (and hopefully they will), that doesn’t mean we won’t still see more series made into LEGO games. If past LEGO sets are any indication, LEGO Spongebob, LEGO Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and possibly even LEGO Harry Potter could be on the way.
