Jaw-Dropping Upcoming Exclusive Games: A Reason to Console-Splurge

Have you, for one reason or another, not bought a new-gen console yet? Well, it’s perhaps understandable—there are plenty of PC-only gamers, and for good reason—the most graphics-intense, most gigantic (MMORPGs!) games can be found on PC. There are also some of us who are just poor. But you want a reason to hold that controller lovingly. And good games are certainly not just about top-notch graphics and processing. Just which controller you choose remains to be seen. Here are GotGame’s “Jaw-Dropping Upcoming Exclusive Games: Reasons to Splurge on… (InsertConsoleHere).”

The PS3 is the arguable backrunner in terms of big-name titles out. With a poor line of launch titles, PS3 has continued to struggle garnering a large userbase. E3 has certainly been a turn for the brighter. The obvious choice is PS3-exclusive LittleBigPlanet, a game we comprehensively reviewed, and for good reason. Sackboys, God-like control of the playing field, the inevitable barrage of obscene user-uploaded stickers (a la Spore penis-monsters), the list goes on. Another completely opposite-spectrum “Reason for Splurging” is Killzone 2, a hardcore shooter with an (awesome) sci-fi twist, sequel to the successful original.

The Xbox 360 sees much poorer sales in Japan than in the US, but promises more of the same shooter success that has made it work this side of the Pacific. Boasting improvements upon the original, which sold a serious 5 million copies, Gears of War 2 has more multiplayer options and better online features. For those Japanese gamers with seemingly different taste, however, Fable 2 also looks promising. I was looking forward to the sex, happy that a game developer would take a chance in the high-tension, easily-villainized video game industry. But, alas, no sex on screen.

Finally, the Nintendo Wii has seen the most success so far of the three, though E3 was surprisingly disappointing in terms of upcoming games. Perhaps this is somewhat biased, but Animal Crossing: City Folk would be one of my reasons for buying a Wii. One of those games you either get or don’t get, Animal Crossing isn’t really about anything in particular, yet gives hours and hours of addictive play every day for the rest of your life. It’s life as an endless vacation, debuting on Wii. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is another sure hit, a live-action RPG that’s easy on the eyes. Perhaps the best upcoming Reason-to-Splurge for Wii, MadWorld is violent, film noir meets comic book meets video game, brutal and artistically wonderful Gladiator match. If that’s not a reason to try out the Wii, then the gaming fortune cookie says you will never be satisfied in life.madworld
