Inside GotGame: Who we want to fight with

What is Soul Calibur famous for…besides Ivy’s chest? Fighting with weapons and guest fighters. Since Soul Calibur hasn’t had guest fighters since Soul Calibur II, and Star Wars is…Star Wars, we at GotGame started thinking about who we’d like to download to fight with in Soul Calibur IV, or at least have considered for future titles.

My last article about fighting game crossovers was all me, so this time I wanted the whole staff to give their input. Here’s what we got:

Star Wars Characters
Since Lucas’ gravy-train is now tight with Soul Calibur, we want more Star Wars characters.

1. Darth Maul – The original apprentice and the first to use the double-bladed lightsaber was number one. How cool would he be in a game looking like he did in Dark Horse’s Star Wars: Visionaries? He may be half the man he used to be, but he looks ten times badder.

2. Luke Skywalker – The greatest Jedi in the far, far away galaxy and one tough SOV (son of Vader). We could finally live the dream and battle with Darth Vader without fear of losing a hand.

3. Mace Windu – He is Samuel L. Jackson with a lighsaber, so it’s no surprise he’s in the top three. Jackson, the Force bless him, also made purple lightsabers possible.

Jar Jar was also suggested, but only so we could wail on him.

Video Game Characters

Because some characters are so loved, they shouldn’t be confined to just their games.

1. Dante – The half-demon pretty boy from Devil May Cry is no wimp. After fighting the forces of hell, a fighting game might be a vacation by comparison. With a long list of weapons to choose from he’d fit right in with Soulcalibur, and may add the Soul Edge to his collection.

2. Kratos – As brutal as Dante is pretty, Kratos fears neither man nor beast and shows no mercy. Even after taking on the gods, Kratos could still find a challenge by pitting his Blades of Chaos and other weapons against the Soul Calibur warriors, adding the Soul Edge to his god-slaying kit.

3. (Tie) Sub Zero & Scorpion, Cloud & Sephiroth – It was hard to pick just one character from Mortal Kombat and hard not to include Cloud or Sephiroth without the other. These rivalries need to be settled, or at least dragged out even further, Soul Calibur-style; Sub Zero with ice-weapons, Scorpion with his harpoon…whip…thingies, and Cloud and Sephiroth with their swords of over-compensation.

We love the idea of a son of Sparda vs. son of Sparta, half-demon vs. half-god throw down, and the prospect of fighting as Cloud or Sephiroth against the other seems to please both fanboys and fangirls. It certainly pleases my inner fangirl…wait, what?

Other Media

Because we just want to play with these characters.

Many liked the prospect of a Highlander crossover with MacLeod, Kurgan, and Ramirez. Although, Connery fighting women just seems wrong. Kill Bill was also brought up, with a majority favoring Gogo, the beloved bladed ball-and-chain wielding school-girl.
