Hey You Guys! It’s MS and Seinfeld
Apple has been solidly trouncing Microsoft in the public image sector for the past few years. The Mac ads, with Justin Long, have steadily chipped away at Microsoft’s appeal and market share. In fact, they’ve been so effective that Microsoft has had to come out with a ridiculous ad retort called the Mojave Experiment… which has been a complete failure. So what can Microsoft do to combat Apple’s comedic ads? Hire the comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
Microsoft has to put a new face on their image. They tried with this silly little “Mojave Experiment,” but they must’ve realized they aren’t selling Hardee’s burgers. So, they’ve decided to learn a little from Apple and hire a celebrity to help paint themselves in a new light. I couldn’t think of a better pick than Jerry Seinfeld. He’s a classic comedic icon, and he’s been out of the spotlight long enough for people to appreciate his humor again. I’m looking forward to seeing the new advertising with Jerry; I’m always down for funny commercials.
Honestly, I’m a Windows XP user, and I like the OS. I don’t plan to switch to Vista or Apple until I can no longer use this computer. XP is simple and stable enough for me to use on a daily basis for the past 4-5 years. Granted, I have to format my entire hard drive once a year or so to keep it running cleanly, but from what I’ve seen OS X is no different. My buddy has a Mac with an earlier version of OS X, and it runs so slowly that he doesn’t even use it anymore (he uses his girlfriend’s Windows laptop). Seems to me OS X is just a prone to clogging up as Windows.
Which OS is better isn’t really relevant though, because Microsoft has been losing market share to Apple because of Apple’s consistent and effective advertising. iPods are the MP3 player, thanks to all those colorful silhouette music videos. Now OS X has nearly doubled its popularity thanks to those goofy ads where Windows is portrayed to be a frumpy little nerd.
I’ll admit it; I like the ads; they usually make me laugh out loud (I refuse to use LOL,) but I kinda feel bad for Microsoft. Mac users hate the company so intensely it makes me want to stand up for the poor little guy (Well, I guess they’re really the big guy). They just seem so helpless, like Sloth from the Goonies. I guess I won’t have to stand up for them anymore, the lovable Jerry Seinfeld will be doing the stand-up for me.
