Hello Beta! Hello Kitty’s MMORPG Beta Released; Excessive Cuteness Commences

Ho. Lee. Crap. Yes, I know I’m probably over-reacting, and yes, I know the demographic of this game is girls half my age, but dude…! A Hello Kitty MMORPG? How has this not previously been called to my attention? Yes, you heard me: Hello Kitty is starring in her very own online game. The beta is already out, and it’s everything a hardcore Sanrio-ite could want and more.

It’s common knowledge that there’s pretty much a Hello Kitty item for everything in existence—and I mean everything. Take one visit to your local Sanrio Store and you’ll know what I mean. Hello Kitty dust busters, Hello Kitty Muay Thai boxing shorts…even Hello Kitty vibrators (er, “personal massagers”). She’s kind of been lacking in the whole “online game” department, however—until now, that is.

Thanks to Sanrio Digital and Typhoon Games, the beta for Kitty’s first MMORPG has been released, and it looks promising for avid fans of this feline everywhere. The game is following a bevy of other Sanrio titles, including Game Boy Advance’s Happy Party Pals, and GameCube’s Roller Rescue, but this is her first venture into a virtual world (definitely not her first one to run the risk of inducing nausea from explicitly high levels of cuteness, though).

Here’s an intro to the game by Kitty herself, which will not only further excite you about it, but will also make you wonder how she can talk that well without a mouth:

As you might expect, this online game has a slightly more feminine slant than the orc-battling MMORPGs to which many of you are accustomed. A few monsters/”malevolent forces” pop up here and there to keep the plot line pumping, but on the most part, it’s pretty much Harvest Moon with a pinker color palette. Picking fruit, building houses, and planting crops take up a lot of your time in this virtual world, but there’s more to the game than that. You bump into characters like My Melody, Badtz-Maru, and Pochacco throughout the game, who give you occasional missions and guidance, but all of the Sanrio critters are non-playable. There is, however, the prospect of one of them becoming your pet down the line, which I find embarrassingly exciting.

All things considered, if I don’t go blind from the bright, cheery color palette of the game, this will likely be my favorite online game to date (shh…don’t tell anyone!). I predict that the only way that they could improve upon this concept is if Blizzard and Sanrio joined forces to make their next MMORPG World of Kitty, where our Sanrio favorites wield battle axes and raid together in pastel bliss.
