GTA Blamed for Brutal Slaying
The latest person to jump on the “video games made me do it” bandwagon was Phalawat Chinno who decided to attempt to rob a taxi cab because it was so easy to do it in GTA IV. When the taxi driver fought back, the man stabbed him 10 times. So what does the Thai government do in response to this tragic slaying? Why ban the game, of course.
The 18 year-old chose the 54 year-old cab driver because he believed him to be too old to fight back during the robbery. He patiently waited for someone who he thought he could easily overpower. You don’t learn this stuff from GTA. This was a seriously messed up individual. On top of that, he compulsively played the game. Someone who does something like this obviously has a problem and should be treated. Also, he supposedly spent 8 hours choosing a pair of knives for the grisly job. This was a calculated killing. Someone who spends 8 hours picking a pair of knives just for a robbery has something amiss where it counts.
The Thai government, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to pull GTA IV from store shelves and has created a list of 10 most dangerous video games. The games are:
1. Grand Theft Auto
2. Manhunt
3. Scarface
4. 50 Cent: Bulletproof
5. 300: The Video Game
6. The Godfather
7. Killer 7
8. Resident Evil 4
9. God of War
10. Hitman: Blood Money
This is a terrible and unnerving tragedy, but unfortunately for many responsible gamers, they will no longer be able to buy GTA from stores because of one disturbed degenerate.
The story has also spread to Spain, where Spanish taxi drivers are pushing for a ban on not just GTA, but any games “with a high level of violence or which ‘celebrate’ drug trafficking or prostitution.” Oh, boy. What about games like Doom? Doom is pretty violent, but how’s that going to help you kill a taxi driver? Are you going to pretend the demons are cabbies? This is the problem with censorship; everyone ends up with less freedom and only those who are responsible and morally levelheaded receive any real punishment.
