Highlights from the Upper Bracket Semifinals:
GotGame West (#5 seed) vs. ORZ (#19 seed):
GGW and ORZ had a great semifinal match, mirroring Warrior, Warlock, Druid comps.
ORZ played extremely well, taking aback some of its players’ naysayers after MLG San Diego (sorry MoB).
Hafu, in particular, was absolutely spectacular as ORZ’s Druid, helping to put a nice swap on GGW’s Greenranger, which locked up the first round for ORZ.
The seventeen year old also had a nice, televised comment between rounds about how she wasn’t going to be drinking tonight in celebration- thanks for the update on your social calendar.
In round two, ORZ looked much better again of the two teams, with Hafu keeping her teammates in far better shape than Greenranger did.
With this type of comp, of course, Dots did extensive damage on both sides (making Hafu and Greenranger’s roles all the more important), slowly ticking away from both team’s player’s HP and enabling the teams to swap onto players with low health, hoping for a quick kill. GGW’s Hoodrych was quickly taken down in this fashion in the first two rounds. (In Hoodrych’s defense, he told us that he had some keyboard/equipment problems, during the match.)
In the final round, GGW played much better, but they were still no match for ORZ. It appeared that GGW grew inpatient towards the end of the third round, overextending in an attempt to kill ORZ’s Rhaeygan, who was momentarily extremely close to death before he used a healthstone.
ORZ takes down GGW 3-0.
Highlights from the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals:
GotGame West (#5 seed) vs. Pandemic (#7 seed):
GGW’s power packed Warrior, Warlock, Druid combo of Hoodrich, Didy, and Greenranger quickly overwhelmed Pandemic’s Rogue, Shaman, Druid combo, extending GotGame teams’ dominance of Pandemic’s WoW team in recent MLG events.
Teeb seemed a little bit out of his league for much of the match, which hurt Pandemic’s chances in each round, as he became overextended and lost mana quickly.
He did make a nice recovery in round three trinketing a death coil, but was spell locked during NS and taken down for the count by GGW.
GGW sweeps Pandemic 3-0
GotGame East (#2 seed) vs. FragDominant Duelists (#4 seed)
GGE vs. FragDom was an extremely hard fought battle that went back and forth throughout each of its four rounds.
Many analysts favored either team to win the tournament heading into the weekend, so the audience turned out in droves to watch this fight.
In the first round, both teams mirrored each other with a Rogue/Priest/Druid Alliance comp. Not too surprisingly given the comp mirror, the match essentially came down to which team had more precise timing.
Round Recap:
- After some strong maneuvering on FragDom’s part, Sodah had to trinket a KS. However, this made him vulnerable to a stun in caster form, forcing Venruki to use Pain Suppression on him.
- While FragDom seemed to outpace GGE in the first few minutes of the match, Sodah pulled off a full Innervate on Venruki, bringing GGE ahead on the mana front, turning the early tide in his team’s favor.
- Happyminti did a great job, throughout the first round and the match in general, demonstrating that he is without question one the of the finest Rogues in the world. His sap off of a fear was what secured the first round for GGE over FragDom.
In the second round, FragDom did a better job than GGE landing Burns and catching/dispelling Innervates. Additionally, FragDom better controlled Happyminti, so that he could not beat up on Emolol, as he did in the first round. This enabled FragDom to take down Venruki, after which the match was over quickly, and FragDom matched GGE’s round wins 1-1.
In the third round, GGE showed its incredible versatility when counter-comping, bringing in a Warrior for its Rogue. However, even though Venruki played well after the adjustment, it seemed as though the swap away from his primary class, hurt him, as he was taken down despite the counter advantage, putting FragDom ahead 2-1 in the match.
In the fourth round, FragDom pulled ahead of GGE after Sodah was caught by Fear in caster form, and FragDom put its attention fully on him mid-fear. Emolol landed a KS on him during the Fear spell, which brought him down to 1,000 health, forcing him to pull some quick maneuvering to evade. While Sodah was able to flee certain death a number of times at MLG San Diego, this time his luck ran out: FragDom’s Celex landed Starfire, killing Sodah and ensuring FragDom’s spot in the semifinals.
FragDom takes down GGE 3-1

GotGame East Bios:

Alex Ringe (Sodah)
Alex grew up in the Los Angeles Valley, and has resided in Southern California ever since. After playing soccer for over 7 years, his interests turned toward games of the electronic variety in high school. He started his gaming career with Counterstrike and graduated to WoW, which hooked all of his friends as well. He has been playing for over three and a half years, and his primary character is Sodah: a druid that has been on Frostwolf, Frostmane, Korgath, Blackwing Lair, and Detheroc. Alex currently attends the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he is studying Political Science. When he’s not playing WoW or studying, he enjoys dirt biking, late-night Denny’s debates, and fantasy novels.
Elliott Venczel (Venruki)
Elliott grew up in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. He recently graduated high school in Calgary, Alberta, and plans to attend college this fall. He started playing Counterstrike at 15, and switched to WoW approximately 2 years ago. His first character was a druid named Venczel, but he eventually decided to pick up an undead mage, whom he still currently plays. Elliott’s favorite pastimes include playing games, spending time with his friends, and watching his favorite television shows, which include House and Family Guy.

Jordan Mance (Happyminti)
Jordan has lived in Charleston, South Carolina his entire life, and he played many sports growing up. After first delving into the gaming world when he was 13, he realized that the competitiveness he showed as a young athlete translated into the online games he played. He recently graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in Religious Studies, and currently works for a cell phone company. Much of his free time is devoted to WoW, and he has used his rogue HappyMinti since June 2005. When he’s not gaming, he enjoys boating, playing soccer, and spending time with his girlfriend. Jordan feels lucky to be here, and would like to thank his teammates and GotGame for their support.
GotGame West Bios:

Adam Brown (Hoodrych)
Adam grew up in Orange County, and recently moved to Tacoma, Washington for a change of atmosphere. Prior to WoW, he was a skilled Quake player, having played several tournaments in California. He still believes that true skill can prevail in an FPS more than in an MMO. He learned about WoW from word of mouth, starting as a warrior named Hoodrych on Daggerspine, eventually moving to Kil’Jaeden Alliance. He’s played a warrior exclusively, and has been on BG9 since the release of competitive arenas. His team obtained Merciless Gladiator in 3v3 on BG9 at the end of Season Two, and he’s played numerous warriors in other groups at the top level. Adam’s hobbies include going out with friends, watching movies, and trying not to play WoW too much.

John Grenier (Greenranger)
John has lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana the majority of his life and attended Episcopal High School. He grew up with a love for soccer and tennis and now his heart lies in online gaming. After dabbling in other MMO and FPS games like Everquest and Halo, he developed a partiality to WoW, and has played since its original release. Over his accomplished WoW career, he has played a rogue and warrior both named Severien, eventually creating a druid named Greenranger, whom he has exclusively played for the past three years. John is currently an undergraduate Medical Physics student at LSU.

John Pinkham (Didy)
John was born in Missouri and moved to Colorado when he was 8. He played many sports before his classmates outgrew him in high school, and then began to focus more of his energy on gaming. Prior to WoW, he played games like Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, and Star Wars Galaxies. He initially started out as a paladin in WoW, and after a brief hiatus exploring the world of Rainbow 6, came back as a warlock, citing the BG9 community as being the ones that “whipped him into shape.” When he isn’t playing video games, he enjoys watching movies, playing ping pong, and going to Denny’s after the LAN closes. John plans on going to school in August for Computer Programming and Networking.
