Given the Chance to Play with a Celebrity, Call “Yahtzee”
Have you ever found yourself knee-deep in some sorry excuse for a game (that you undoubtedly spent at least $39.99 on) and made a snide remark that was utterly awesome, but was made with no one around to hear? Imagine playing with someone who cannot only agree with that remark, but make it way more hilarious than you could ever articulate. That’s what it would be like to play with the Escapist’s video review artist, Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw.
If you haven’t heard of this Aussie already, you’re in for a treat. Alongside some very un-PC balloon caricatures that illustrate his opinion of the gameplay, this British-born, Australian convert produces the harsh kick in the pants that so many games deserve. He illustrates his quickly-articulated points through snarky and biting comments that review our favorites so thoroughly (and quite fairly) they are sharp enough to make the biggest producers cry, and the most dedicated gamers celebrate.
Through his undoubtedly inventive name-calling and hilarious taunting, I cannot imagine a better game play buddy than Croshaw. Aside from his dislike for any and all multiplayer games and the (most likely) thorough ripping apart of your most favorite saga, his in depth, and highly informed point of view is bound to leave you impressed. And if his sharp tongue leaves you sniffling and questioning your sexuality after a thorough whipping in your favorite Guitar Hero, you can always lift your spirits by pulling out a game he does like. (Here’s a hint: Silent Hill 2.) Because, let’s be honest, he knows a whole heck of a lot more than most of us biggest snobs do. And, in the case that you do know as much as he does, I’ll bet you’ve never explained a game’s ability to bend you over the furniture and wail on your ass with a steak tenderizer with the same authority as he does.
Check out his site and decide for yourself.
