Gaming for Charity – Sacramento Habitants Get Their Game ON!

Intel LAN FestOn June 7th, 150 gamers opened up their wallets and their hearts to participate in a huge LAN tournament hosted by Intel. For a $35 entrance fee, gamers were able to compete against one another in titles such as Company of Heroes, Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 2, and Guitar Hero III. All entrance fees benefited Robert Family Development Center and The United Way California Capitol Region.

Several players were seen bringing in sleeping bags while others were going to combat the 32 hour playing stint with massive quantities of energy drinks. Players who needed to unwind from the long LAN marathon could do so in their “lounge” area where several couches were made available as well as an array of Wii games.

Sales and Marketing was kept at a minimum, to better enhance the gaming experience. However, some of the prizes included video cards, mice, and RAM, estimated around the $20,000 mark.

Those that participated simply for the social aspect, were able to play in the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) designated area, where players were able to meet up and play at a more relaxed pace.
